Is it true that Nutt gets $2 milllion if his contract isn't extended?

Nutt's buyouts are substantial. He would make $6 million if UM fired
him with three or more years remaining on his contract, $5 million if
between two and three and $4 million if between one and two.

That's
a hefty sum for a smaller-budget athletic program like UM's, but
consider this: When Bobby Petrino agreed to an extension with Arkansas
in December, reports had his buyout at $18 million.

At
the end of last year's 4-8 season, Nutt received an extension through
the 2014 season. That was due in part to a rollover provision that was
part of the contract that was signed shortly after he arrived in Oxford
following the 2007 season.
If UM opts not to extend his contract after this season, the school would owe him $2 million.

His job seeking after his first year there really put Boone in the palm of his hand.

i know they felt that they couldn't take a chance on missing out on a proven commodity like Nutt (at least that was the thinking at the time) especially after Coach O, but damn.

It seems like they just handed Nutt's agent a blank sheet of paper and pen, then said "Go ahead, write whatever want for a contract.....feel free to explore the space."

He's starting to remind me of Jackie. He's up, down, medium, starting to pull out all the stops......but at the end of the day he'll win some games and have them looking like a football team. And his overall record will probably be around .500 as well.

We really don't understand how well we have it with Mullen. A guy who can come in and build a program with minimal problems with the talent we routinely get is, well, RARE.

I'd take Nutt if he was available if we didn't have Mullen. The guy's a solid football coach. I wish Ole Miss would fire him, their loss.

Ahh yeah, they are delusional so they don't have the slightest idea whats going on with their coaches.

Thankfully you are here to keep everyone straight.

I'd much rather have Nutt than the alternative, if I was them. Both fanbases have seen how bad things can get in football, and how quick they can get that way. To have a guy that can guarantee you mediocre success in football at a school like UM or MSU is quite a deal. Look at the history, it's just not on our side. Negative mentality? No. Realism.

Fortunately we have one of those rare guys that can buck the trend, if we can get him to stay for a while.

keep it coming, this is fun.
He's old, he's burnt out, he's bringing back old coaches trying to gettheirGovernment Retirements vested. He's definitely Jackie 2001-3.

It's essentially an extension without technically being an extension. I must admit, a pretty sneaky loophole if true but that does seem to create one hell of a precedent. In other words, if law says that you can't do something, then by all means don't do it but make sure that you get paid if it's not done... It seems like this could apply to several situations.
