Is Jamoral Graham the only True Freshman to play so far?

I saw Hutcherson in for a few plays in the first game, so he's probably still eligible for a red shirt at this point. Graham is the only true freshman I can think of off the top of my head. I heard JT Gray might be too good to keep off the field this season, but we have a lot of depth at LB. I'm sure another one or two will play at some point, but being able to red shirt this past year's recruiting class in almost its entirety is huge for the future. Huge for the development of those guys who are already talented. We need a QB to step up in the near future and our best years could still be ahead of us. I'm hoping 4 star QB commit Chason Virgil is that guy. He's tearing it up as a Senior in 5A football out in Texas.

With Dak as a senior, we could have another opportunity at a great season just like this year if young guys step up at the skill positions.

Thinking about it, with LSU and Bama not having an upper tier QB for the next couple years (basing on what I've seen on their roster currently. Obviously Coker and Harris could end up being great, but let's stick with what we've seen) and our Defense not being far behind them and having a lot of young talent, our window for success like what South Carolina has had could be opening. If we can get a little bit better in recruiting, I can see it happening.

I wrote a post a last year comparing Mullen and Spurrier's tenure through their first few years and they were very, very similar in recruiting and wins/losses statistics. In time Mullen will become a great coach in my opinion. Spurrier is almost twice Dan's age. If he can keep it going and get better each year and improve in recruiting a few spots, we might can ease our way into the upper tier of the SEC like South Carolina, always being a little less talented than Bama and LSU, but having a good enough team and coaching to be able to beat them.

Hail State.

Feeling woolly this week.

One snap burns a redshirt. You can get considered for a medical redshirt if you get hurt before playing a certain portion of a season--I think 30%

I'm pretty sure you can still play a few snaps at the beginnin of the season and

not get a red shirt burned. Didn't we do this with Cedric Jiles? He played in his first game against Jackson State. You usually don't apply for a medical red shirt until after your senior year. I may be wrong on this.

Understand ...

Coker and Harris could end up being great, but let's stick with what we've seen

where you are headed but may be a little premature.

'15 QBs - Dak/SR, Damian/JR, Nick/RSFR, Elijah/RSFR, Virgil/FR, Tiano/FR
'16 QBs - Damian/SR, Nick/SO, Elijah/SO, Virgil/RSFR, Tiano/RSFR, +QB/QBs signed in Feb '16

Dak should be #1 this year and '15; look for a lot of competition in '15 to find clear leader and backup among the group

Lots can/will happen between now and '16 /'17; we have four QBs currently on the roster now with two signees; don't think we end up having more than four on the roster in any year; there will be some attrition; hopefully the best stay to compete but it is only human nature for all to want to play and start.

QB position looks good going forward.

Ha.

You play a snap - your redshirt is gone but you can apply for a medical hardship/redshirt once your playing career is over as long as you are under a certain % of the season in which you were injured.

Nope, not without being hurt. You can't play in a game, no matter how small an amount of time, then decide you're not going to use that season after all. I think Jiles' case is explained by the fact that there's a "medical redshirt" and then a "medical hardship." I don't know much about the difference between them, but I think you apply for one immediately and one after your eligibility would normally be over.

All I know is that Graham should be an integral part of our offense by game 4. He is not, and I question that.

He's a true freshman who didn't get on campus until the beginning of fall camp, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's still learning the offense. He did get in on a few offensive plays against USA though, so hopefully that means he'll get more and more involved throughout the season.

Just for clarification here -- The "at the end of a career" part only applies to players that already redshirted and are looking for year #6.

Medical redshirts themselves are given out yearly to players that hadn't redshirted previously. For instance -- Giles' medical redshirt for his first year was already signed off on by the NCAA prior to his second season. Hence, he's listed as a SO now although it's his third year on campus and he played at the beginning of his fr year... He will be ineligible to apply for this season until the end of his 5th year though...
