Is Kiffin worth $90 million

If he can make them $91 million dollars then yea. Cowherd had a segment several years ago after Saban signed a big contract and people complained about it. He made the case Saban was underpaid due to how much money he would make for UofA. I don’t remember the particulars but interesting thought.

I can tell you, having gone to Clemson for graduate school (yeah, yeah, I know), the place has BLOWN up since their big success in football.

Ole Miss' resume is very thin this year. Best win was over Oklahoma. Outside of that, they have no wins over currently ranked teams. One of the weaker CFP resumes.

Yep, Kiffin is a good coach but has also never been the head coach of a playoff team for the ones that drool over him.

It's nuts what the coaching carousel has done. It's widely rumored LSU is putting together a package that would make him the highest paid coach in college football. And he's never actually won anything. He's never even coached in a CFP or title game (as HC). Schools used to pay coaches commensurate with their accomplishments. Now they pay coaches as if it's a downpayment on guaranteed success. "If we pay this guy a ton of money, we're gonna win"

It's almost as if LSU didn't learn anything from their miscalculation with Kelly.

Yep, people forget he's been a pro and college head coach for 15+ years, never won anything as head coach (won 2 titles as OC for two elite teams) and is now considered coaching royalty.

Id still take him over Shane.

Heck, I'd take him over 90% of the coaches out there.
Of course but he's not coming here to begin with and we aren't ponying up the money he wants. Many better coaches than Beamer.

Like I said earlier, Kiffin is a good offensive mind. I wouldn't blame him for taking big money at LSU. Do I think he's worth it? Nope. I'd take A&M, Bama and UGA over Ole Miss in Oxford.

There's a pretty big gap though between "I'd take him here" and "highest paid coach in the game"...lol

Funny thing will be if he takes the LSU job and then DeBoer gets bounced in a year or two. He'll be on the first train to Tuscaloosa.

Don't disagree too vehemently with you guys. He hasn't won anything title yet, so hard to crown him (pay him) as the best coach.

I do wonder what his team would be like with OSU's budget, and would his coaching suddenly become title worthy.

One different way if thinking about it, he might not be the top coach in america, but is he the top coaching candidate this year?

The dude really can coach.

Kiffin detractors like to say he has not won an SEC championship. They never mention that in 3 years at Florida Atlantic, he won 2 Conference USA championships. Here is what those detractors fail to acknowledge regarding what he has done at Ole Miss. He has won nearly 75% of his games in a state that is shy of 3 million people. Can you imagine what he might do in a state that has over 50% more people (Louisiana) than Mississippi? Or in a state (Florida) that has a recruiting pool 8x the size of Mississippi? Don't know about you guys, I want Kiffin nowhere near the Florida Gator program if the Gators are a future permanent opponent of ours.

54 million to have Kelly go away
10 million for current assistants
90 million to hire kiffin
15 million for new assistants
169 million estimated total

Where will they get the money to revenue share with the players? Its up to 20 million max right?

Kiffin says he is going to coach the rest of the year at Ole Miss. Well, the Rebs better start looking for his replacement. That's all I will say except I hope LSU is his destination.

Kiffin is already recruiting Louisiana and Florida and Georgia and Texas. The population of the state has very little to do with the talent on the football team. Clemson built a powerhouse at a smaller college in a state with a small population by recruiting in Georgia, Florida and North Carolina as well as South Carolina. I don't have to imagine what Kiffin might do, I can see what he does.

As Lurker said above, Kiffin can "coach". I wish we had him. But we decided to hire a legacy, thinking and hoping he would duplicate Daddy's success. But, think about it: how many sons of Hall of Fame coaches ever came close to duplicating Daddy's success? I can't think of one.

It is pretty obvious that being a great coach is not a genetic trait that passes down through generations. I know Kirby's father was a HS coach and not a particularly successful one. Spurrier's father was a preacher. Saban's father owned a gas station and coached youth football. Kiffin's father was an NFL DC. I guess growing up around football at a high level helps someone understand what the job entails but it doesn't seem to be a natural talent.

Yeah. For some reason, the hiring authorities here forgot it takes 2 to tango. ;)
