It looks like Lane Kiffin is trying to do to the big boys in the sec what Jackie Wayne did to OM, piss them off and get-um so mad they couldn't think straight and have them so worried about his next move it kept them off balance. The only difference, JWS was a master at it and knew how to do it and be very low key about it and not create an uproar in the national media.

Learned his tricks from Johnny Majors at Pitt. Built a resume and could back it up. Kiffin is diggin an early grave.

Sounds like a great plan, but I don't think the boy is smart enough to pull it off. He's making this **** up as he goes along, and many U-T fans...who just a few weeks ago "liked his swagger," are agreeing that he is an idiot.

The dude better go undefeated next season to pull his *** out of the fire.

he did learn alot from majors but the person i think he learned the most from was bryant. if anyone was the master of pissing people off and getting the emotional upper hand, it was him. the story of the liberty bowl when they played ucla is one of the best i have heard.

evidently it was cold as **** in memphis the week leading up to the game. bryant told the media the entire week how the cold was going to affect the players, the game, etc... terry donahue at ucla bought it all hook line and sinker. during pregame warm ups bama was in full warm up suits. pants, jackets, long pants under their football pants, and long sleeves under their shoulder pads. ucla was dressed the same. back in the locker room before kick off, bryant told the team that only pussies wore long pants and long sleeves. terry donahue said that when they saw alabama run out of the tunnel in short pants and jerseys yelling like crazy people, he new he had been duped. they were totally undone emotionally after that.

He was a good coach, a great recruiter, a polished media personality and an even better cheater, but I don't remember him causing anyone at Ole Miss to become mentally unstable.

they may not have become mentally unstable, but when we won in 1998 to clinch for Atlanta, I heard some woman in Red and Blue two rows behind me holler- "Sherrill, I hate you you son of a bitchhhhhhhhh"

That was great. Nothing but class from the Rebel women as usual

I'd say hiring P.I.'s and having boosters "in bed" figuratively or otherwise with the NCAA a tad obsessive.

if you care to go back and actually absorb what i wrote you will see that i was speaking about bryant and not coach sherrill. i was merely stating that bryant was the example he had to learn from. i never asserted that he had gotten the better of another team emotionally or psychologically but it's not surprising that a dumb *** ole miss fan who has nothing better to do than read the state board to think that i was speaking directly about them. the logic doesnt even follow to be honest. i was talking about bama/ucla not bama/auburn. get over yourself. </p>

Jackie and Kiffin are completely different.

Kiffin is coming in trying to be brash to make a statement. He's trying to incite the big programs and try to say to the fanbase and his team that he's not afraid to challenge the top teams in the league either on the field or verbally. It's the same thing Harbaugh did at Stanford and Neuheisal did at UCLA in taking shots at USC.

Jackie took jabs at us simply because we were a rival, and because he knew his fanbase would respond to it. I don't think he was getting involved in any kind of psychological warfare to try to prove that he belonged in the league, which is what I think Kiffin is trying to do.

Jim Tressel did something similar at OSU in guaranteeing a win over Michigan in his first year, even though Michigan was a better program at the time, and Michigan had dominated the game recently. He was posturing, and he backed it up by beating Michigan that year and pretty consistently since then. Jackie wasn't ever posturing with us I don't believe, more just taking subtle jabs.
