or will we have him next year? What about Mershon? I know DJ is gone.
Jurrangelo is long gone. He is looking at a 2nd round projection from the various things Ive seen. His draft stock has gone up big time since the beginning of this year.

Yes, on both. They are some of those with the late birthday that got held back. Same as Dakota Jordan.

Don't know how high Mershon is on the draft boards, though.

You're telling me we are about to extend a coach into a rebuilding year. Can't wait...
Will we really be THAT terrible? I mean our entire upperclass is basically mercenaries and portal guys. We have some pretty good young talent. Pitching will probably be great.

They’re both gone which is fine. They probably aren’t here if they’re looking at 3 years. Similar to JT Ginn.

So important that he finishes this season strong so he has something to sell in the portal besides playing time on a crappy team.

Lemonis’ portal track record with position players is solid. Ledbetter, RJ Yeager, Hujsak, etc. Guys like Kohler, DeBrule, Long can fill 2025 roles easily.

Pitching will probably need to carry the team though.

Only Ledbetter and Yeager were high impact guys in their first year. And Ledbetter wasn’t anything special in sec play. It’s more likely we get a Larry, Kohler, Debrule, Jess Davis or a Husjak (yr 1).

Pretty much all the starters are gone. Folks are going to see how bad recruiting really has been.
Mershon is not leaving, unless he gets drafted. And if he does, well good for him.

We will also get Highfill back. Plus a core of Cupp, Pulliam, Stevens. I would imagine Downs will start. Does Chance get drafted? Who knows. Spalitta, Chester probably back, what about Kohler? And you know we'll add a few out of the portal too.

Everyone likely leaving are all our best players.
This happens every year, to most every team. You always have to project if a player will make a jump or not, that's part of it. Rarely does anybody have a bunch of sure things every year, it's impossible.

Most teams don’t lose everyone. We lose all our production. LSU lost nearly everyone. And they suck.

Mershon is fine. He was batting .260 going into yesterday in conference play. Up to .286 after yesterday. Solid kid that will make a jump but not a centerpiece of the lineup. Needs a better OBP if he is going to slug like he does. The rest of that list is really really not great. Kohler is out of eligibility.

Real mistake not putting a young bat in the DH slot to get adjusted. Maybe we will be good but there is no reason to think that.

This is not possible. Been told repeatedly he wouldn’t even go Top 15 rounds and had no tools whatsoever with either arm. Or perhaps that’s just my faulty TERRERED TAAAAPLEY memory failing me…..

We’ve tried that. The young players looked completely overmatched. The real mistake (among others) was literally not recruiting anyone on a 35-man roster capable of not being a liability at the DH spot in the lineup.

We put 2 guys in there that probably have no business on the roster. I don’t get why Stevens or McKenzie aren’t getting those chances. But yes, to struggle to find a DH is amazing.

The way we’ve used Stevens is a mystery. I don’t even know who McKenzie is. But those guys can’t be any worse than what we’ve been doing.

I think if Stevens had been put there and LEFT there consistently he would be helping from the DH spot.

Mershon is definitely gone. Chance is gone. When I say nothing is returning, I mean NOTHING. They're all projected to be drafted.

^^^This^^^ we only have like 1 of the Dandy Dozen signed. I really dont see any of the current Freshmen on the team making contributions besides Stevens.
That is concerning. We also don't seem to be prioritizing Alabama as much. I noticed we are going into Louisiana more, which has proven to not be very fruitful for us.

I really just don't know about Lemonis.

Chance isnt going to be drafted this year.. he'll be a senior sign at best

Mershon isnt going anywhere either. He'll be a mid to late pick when hes ready to leave.

Lo has improved his draft stock but he wont be a 2nd round arm, but he'd be dumb to stay. Same for Jordan and Hines.

Will have to replace 3b, 1b, Cf, Rf-- which is pretty normal. Getting Highfill back will be huge. Him along with Kupp/Mershon/Chance isnt a bad starting point, but will need 1-2 impact bats from somewhere

Agreed with whoever said it, but the real fault in all this was not playing a young kid at the DH spot and getting them some at-bats/experience.

Chance is absolutely projected to be drafted & Mershon is too. Chance has to go because he loses any opportunity next time leverage wise.

disagree. leverage is only a thing with high/top draft picks. Chance isnt going to be drafted high enough where it matters. Chance will be a senior sign. Chance is going to be a guy that if he gets drafted, gets told here is 50K take it or leave it, wont matter what round its in. They'll draft him to save draft pool money for someone else. He isnt going to have bargaining power.

mershon could go, but wont. He's just a soph, wont be slotted high enough where the bonus is worth it for him to leave. He'll get more with NIL money and a chance to better his stock.

Gotta keep in mind. With only 20 rounds. Teams are very much now, making sure they know what it'll take to sign guys prior to drafting so they dont have many unsigned picks. The mets signed 20 of their 23 picks last season. If they take you, they already know what its going to take to sign you. The days of leverage are basically over with minus a hand full of high profile guys.

Chance will 100% be back
Merhson 90%

Pulliam could be a bat at the top of the lineup next year. He’s hitting .357 currently. That’ll probably trend down as team get more film, but he could offset that with a better BB% / OB%.

Hopefully you get Chance and Mershon back with a little NIL $. Add in Pulliam and Highfill, plus a couple portal pieces and see where you’re at. We’ll definitely need to go find some bats with pop in them.

Out of the top 15 slugging percentages in the sec this year, 2 are first year portal guys.

Both are going top 8 rounds. They have no shot at improving their draft status coming back. Mershon talk is his looking at going. It's really a no brainer for Chance if projections are accurate.

You're clueless. If Chance gets drafted and offered 50K this year, he's gone. Because he'll be offered 2K next year. NIL is closing the gap when comes to your professional career. And these guys don't get near as much NIL as you think.

The only real question is IF he gets drafted.

Mershon is a different story, he's got another year of leverage, and he likely isn't a very high draft pick. So he will just have to weigh his options.

Your the clueless one….. You need to go look up the new draft rules, draft pool, slot values and things like that.

No one can get offered 2k anymore. But again I’m not surprised you’re the guy that still thinks batting average is a good way to evaluate a hitter

if chance gets drafted, and he won’t, unless there is a team trying to save draft pool money…. there will already be a number in place agreed upon. He’s not good enough to negotiate. It’s take it or leave it therefore he has zero leverage.

again just stay out of conversations that involve anything more than junior high level of thought, you are waaaayyyy behind the times

When did Highfill have surgery (late March maybe) & how long is the recovery? He may not play until late next year at best.

Wow! Really sad that only maybe 1 and more likely none of those will play in the MLB. Seems nowadays when you can't hit a breaking ball and you strike out more times than you get a hit, it would be best to get paid to at least play your Junior Year in college to try and improve those specific areas of your game. They would still have some leverage.

Or you can get paid 7 figures and then spend hours every day with no time limits, extra costs or class requirements to get better at hitting breaking balls.

Read up on draft rules. If you are drafted in the top 10 rounds you are guaranteed money. The team can’t offer you less.

meaning you can only really negotiate with the best of the best first rounders.. and picks 11-20.

but they also raised the draft pool. And what a team could use before getting taxed.

the royals one of the cheapest teams in baseball. Signed 21 of their 23 picks. None got signed for less than 100k.

the 2k offers like the DA goat said are dead and gone

No. You can definitely sign a kid below slot in the first 10 rounds. It’s why you see seniors go in rounds 6-10. That saves money for the early round guys so you can sign over slot. Skenes actually signed for 500k under slot last year.
