I'd say smart people outnumber idiotic redneck racists 3-1.

No, Morgantown is not liberal. The University is a slightly different story. Gee is a liberal. The faculty is mostly liberal, but not on the same scale as many universities across the country. I have a couple of faculty friends and they believe, if they had to guess, it is about 65% liberal to 35% conservative or libertarian.

As a Morgantown native I'd say you have to separate the University from Morgantown proper; they are very different. Morgantown used to be a bastion of the Democrats, but not liberal - blue dog Democrats. They believed not spending money you don't have, whether your home or city budget, but helping those who need it, truly need it. The Gown Crowd has always been liberal and nearly exclusively Democrats, give or take the occasional avowed Socialist (Green Party included).

I'd say today that the Town Crowd leans more Republican along with the Blue Dog hold-outs. But not far right conservative.

My niece is an attorney in town and she would agree with you that Morgantown proper is more conservative than liberal. Not Texas conservative, but conservative. The school is a different story.

As a fellow Motown native I agree with your take.
