Is MSU baseball one of the most desirable programs in the nation?

but the rest of them are really good.

Kendall Rogers has no idea what he's doing. All he really did was list programs that have been successful on a national level over the last 10 years--except USC. The Georgia job is desirable b/c of the HOPE Scholarship and he doesn't even mention that.

I'ts sort of hard for us to be up there when we have never won a national championship. Methink that we could be up there soon with Cohen. I also think this guy has had many gay love orgy's with LSU dudes.

I think we might become one of the best college baseball programs with time. Ive talked with a few players, and Cohen is working their *** off. This was about two weeks ago, but a returning starter said we are in better shape physically than we were at any point of last season.

we're definately top 15. We have more fan support than all but a handful of programs, we have a history of postseason play (though no titles), and a lot of players want to come play here because we are Mississippi State so we have a lot of name recognition.

I think that given all that, with the right coach we can easily be a top 10 program.

I agree; we are a top 15 program, but not top 10.

You can't endure several years of Ron Polk & expect to be a top 10 program.

That's just the reality of the situation.

Having said that, being able to remain a top 15 program while constantly having to fight off Polk's destructive influence @ every turn is still a testament to the strong legacy of MSU baseball.

I refuse to agree with UGA being on that list when they drew a pitiful 4,000 some odd fans to their SR a couple years ago (despite being in a town of over 100,000 people, short drive from Atlanta, an enrollment of 40,000, etc.). They're not just fairweather. They don't even give a **** when their team is good.

I find it hard to believe that mississippi state isn't on your list. when we start winning again...and we will....the crowds you saw at the super regional against clemson in 2007 will be the same you will see every weekend. we have a storied tradition granted without a title..IE florida state..when you can put close to 15,000 people for a college baseball game you are one of the best programs in the country..i'm guessing you have never been to dudy noble field but if you have a chance to come during a SEC weekend you will change your mind about mississippi state baseball

I certainly think Mississippi State is a great and one of the greatest places to watch a college baseball game. But is it a GREAT coaching job? I don't think it is. State has a lot of recruiting competition in the state, is now the "second" state school in the state of Mississippi from a college baseball standpoint, and isn't dealing with a blank check from a baseball perspective. I think Coach Cohen can certainly change the tide when it comes to the program pecking order in the Magnolia State.

I think he'll have this program going the right direction.

Really appreciate your email

"isn't dealing with a blank check from a baseball perspective." shows he doesn't understand the program.

I wouldn't even put them in the top 6 coaching jobs in the SEC (MSU, USC, LSU, UM, UGA, UF - my list, in no particular order). Hell, I'm even not sure the AU, TN, and ARK jobs aren't better than Bama.

he lost it with that UA pick. That is complete ********. I agree that we MAY not be a top 10 coaching job, but its close. Not top 10 program, but coaching job. When you look at salary, support (including the Dugout booster club), general recognition in college baseball circles, etc., we are at least top 15. I will add that UM would be there also.

I had the displeasure of being in Oxford Saturday and wanted to see how their baseball stadium
construction was going. From what I could see, Polk-Dement will be the second nicest in the state. I'm just saying.

That guy is all over the place but he's trying to state, on paper, who he thinks has all the built in advantages to POSSIBLY do really well. Still, he fails miserably at it.

I mean UCLA, get real. Using that logic, Kendall may as well list all Universities in California b/c there's so much talent there. As a program, UCLA sucks and there are others out there that have done a lot better than UCLA.

...but it's not everything. Money, recruiting budget, geographical location, facitlities, and sometimes even how the big two sports do at that school matter. You know UNC uses it's basketball program to help get players to go to school there.

Starkville is not an easy place to recruit, even for baseball.
You hear that? Cohen's recruiting is sucking it up so far. I swear... sportswriters are just getting dumber and dumber. You know the fact that over 12,400 people show up for a super and shatter the previous postseason records.... on a FRIDAY... should show a little something about the heartbeat of the baseball program.

Not that I give a **** about being is some ******** Rivals preseason rankings... I just hate stupidity that is put out there for some morons to read and believe these folks are experts or something.

Also, while I dont think that we are currently a top 10 program, something that bothered me about his assertion that its not one of the top 10 COACHING jobs is this: John Cohen, arguably one of the top 10 best/hottest coaches in the country, turned down an offer that would have made him one of, if not the, highest paid coaches in the country to come here. So from an overall program standpoint I agree with him, but not necessarily from a coaches standpoint.

you're still recruiting a kid to a college. Baseball often is not the only requirement he has. And if you think having top sports teams don't help recruit students, you are an idiot.

What LSU and State have (and Ole Miss is getting there) is a culture where people actually care about college baseball and make attending games a significant part of their spring weekends. No matter how good the facilities or the weather is in places like Arizona and Southern California, they will never have that. You can't buy it or manufacture it.

good sports teams increase student recruting enormously and i think any study would show that. However, I think recruiting individuals for a sport is such a different deal and is so focused on that particular program that the other programs don't have nearly the impact they do on just a normal student.

But Im sure it doesn't hurt Mike Fox to sit a kid down on a visit and have Roy Williams and Ben Hansborough's brother come in and say hello.

But Im also sure it probably helped Polk tremendously to have Croom say hello to any african american Polk was recruiting. Zing.
