Is Mullen pulling a Croom?

Croom used to get routinely bashed for going to Mobile this time of year and hanging out with all of his old NFL buddies. Well, Mullen was down there yesterday hanging out with Tebow. Is he immune from criticism? Not from me. I don't care about Tebow, and I have no idea what the recruiting rules allow and don't allow a week or so before signing day, but I do know this. I would rather my head coach be doing something to try and advance the MSU program than chilling with his boy Tebow, and Dixon and Chaney for that matter.

and at this point, he is pretty much done with those. If he's not, I don't know what he's saving it for.

Our recruiting is pretty much done except for figuring out which of the Plan Z's we are going with.

and as others have noted, Im sure this is in conjunction with any visits he is finishing up.

Saban was there as well.

On the surface, it would piss me off if he was having a recreational trip at this point in the year instead of tying out loose ends in recruiting. But, if it was a quick stop or had someone he wanted to talk to in Mobile, I wouldn't think much about it.

Or else we will lose them to Jacksonville State (Blanchard) or some other school that Croom used to steal recruits from.

does mullen really strike you as the guy that would just blow off an inhome to go to Senior Bowl practice?
We didn't want Blanchard to play football. He wanted to play football and we didn't so he left to go somewhere he could.

No, but he does strike me as a guy who has did not expect to whiff on a few primary targets, nor expect to see others jump ship at the last minute. This ain't Florida. We don't get to pick who we want.

Certainly I am not comparing him to Crooms. I feel very good about the direction of the program. It just concerns me a little that we are limping toward the finish line with Mullen in Mobile.

I know for a fact that Mullen and his staff work their *** off recruiting. Comparing him to Croom is idiotic at this point. He prolly told the pilot to swing through Mobile for 30 min. Not a big deal.

Im sure it was a wake up call for Mullen. I've said before i think the QB board will be much bigger from the get-go next year.

We are off to a good start so far in the 2011 class.

I think any struggles we have had or will have from this point forward are 110% unrelated to Mullen showing up at Senior Bowl practice during the middle of a school day.

says Mullen and Hevesey had and in-home with Neal last night, and were going back to his school today. Sounds like he just stopped by there making his rounds.

he probably showed up at the practices to see his boy Tebow.

Honestly, in a twisted way, it would probably help you in the long run, at least as long as you have Mullen, if Tebow would get drafted high and have success in the NFL.

If Tebow is a 5th rounder that flops in the NFL and ends up at TE, teams will use that against you on the recruiting trail when you try to get QBs.

The only comparison I have b/t the two is their unwillingness.... I mean inability to seal the deal on particular recruits that play the game. Outside of that there is no comparison.

I know that every kid wants to play in the NFL but I can't imagine that they would fall for that. One thing that I cannot imagine they did not change with Tebow was how he brings the ball to his belt level every time he throws the ball.

Cut him some slack. I would rather him take a little time everyonce in a while to keep from getting burned out. Go out of town, hang with freinds, play a little golf, have some sex. You have to live a little to be happy.

The higher they get drafted, the easier it is to say to a recruit "We can put you in the league". It isn't like he can actively recruit for 16 hours a day until signing day. He is only allowed so many visits and calls.

But it will still be used in recruiting. It was starting to happen to Leach, though I don't think he cared if he had a good QB. He'd take average guys and make them look great in college before they do nothing in the pros.

With Tebow, I hear they worked on his motion quite a bit, but he'd get in games and go back to throwing from his hip. Also, I saw an analysis showing that his motion may have actually gotten worse at Florida. They showed his release time coming out of high school and his motion, and then showed it from the Sugar Bowl. It had slowed down, and his high school motion started higher. He's a unique case. I'm just saying, I know Meyer was concerned about Tebow doing well in the pros for that reason. I'm guessing that you'd experience some side benefit or deficit in relation to what Tebow does since you run the same offense.

I know that this is a stupid *** idea coming from a Rebel but Saban and Nutt are recruiting Jr's.  I know, I know Nutt sucks and yall killed us in the Egg Bowl but on the bright side it has to feel good to be hated again!

but mullen has already been making appearances at the schools to be seen.

And he will already have 3 juniors committed on signing day (though CJ Johnson is shaky).

Saban was at the senior bowl yesterday.

Mullen is anything but lazy. He is a non stop guy that is all over it and just gets it. He is simply having problems closing.

I bashed Croom for it and I'll bash Mullen for it. Until signing day is over, he needs to be busting his *** doing whatever he is allowed to do to finalize our signing class, not hanging out with Tim Tebow.

...made for a formidable recruiting duo.

Together, they pulled in the best MSU class in at least a decade.

But separate, they seem to suck at recruiting.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions & fill in the blanks.
