Is our basketball team starting to gel?

It looks like we are playing better in the last couple of weeks. Should have beat UK. Played close with LSU, but that game was one of LSU's best performances this year. Played well last night with Alabama.

the last 2 games we've let bad teams hang around and we won b/c we hit several ridiculous threes at the end.

Im glad we won, but I don't think this team is playing as well as it can.

We do look a lot better offensively. A lot of sharing and high percentage shots in the paint with some good passing in the lane. We had loads of dunks last night. I think JV had at least 4 or 5 alone.

Barry is starting to get ridiculous with some of his moves. I'd like to see him try the "three point foul juke" a lot less though if you know what I'm talking about? The one where he pump fakes a 3 into getting the defender to jump into him and then he takes the actual shot to get 3 foul shots.

The biggest difference in this team from 2 months ago is we don't stand around the perimeter as much and actually try to penetrate for a high percentage shot.

too early in the shot clock and I think that is keeping some teams around. Im fine with taking an open look just outside the arc early, but some of the shots we take are just stupid. For the second time this year, we had an announcer laugh at the way we just jack up terrible 3s.

Barry has been oustanding this year. I was hard on him earlier but once he stopped trying to take it all the way to the goal, he's been our steadiest, most consistent offensive weapon. And you just can't say enough about his defense.

Jarvis has to recognize the double better than he is right now.

But as everyone is now realizing, we go as Dee goes. Its really that simple.

It seems to be setting up more open looks for the three. We still love the three ball more than I care for, but lacking a big man I don't know what else to do. As far as not finishing out teams. There isn't much gas left in the tank to do that. Bench depth is killing us.

I agree with this assesment, especially about alot more movement on offense. The problem is once we get to the lane, we have a horrible tendency of dribbling offkness, having th eball snatches, throwing it out of bounds, or just flat out not catchinga pass for an easy dunk/lay-up. The initial moves and penetratioin into the lane is there much more.

Jarvis is getting doubled by most teams...that's about the best case scenario.

but we aren't recognzing it and throwing out of the double soon enough.

Our depth is fine. Lots of teams will play no more than 7-8 guys in the tourney. Im sure many teams would like to have Osby/Ravern and Turner coming off their bench.

...Its just that some games it seems I wait on Dee unzipping his skin like a Super Bowl commercial and revealing Gary Ervin in a #11 MSU jersey. Then the next game he looks unstoppable.

I'm stiff baffled by Rick's substitution patterns. I thought Kodi played one of his better games last night, and he didn't see the floor for the last 10 minutes.

MSU has beaten LSU and Bama, two teams that are not that good.<div>
</div><div>Also, the games were close and a missed three here or there and both games are losses. If Bost misses that 25 foot three last night when MSU is up one point, who knows what happens.</div><div>
</div><div>But a win is win.</div><div>
</div><div>The problem is those breaks won't always go your way, and with road games at AU and at SC, where both teams can beat MSU, but on a neutral court probably wouldn't</div><div>
</div><div>MSU best offensive player in my mind is Bost, and they need to find more ways to let him create.</div><div>
</div><div>To me the scariest game is AU because they play bad defense, but MSU sometimes settles for the 3, and AU will let them shoot it. I don't think MSU has to win both to keep tourney hopes alive, but I do think the ticket to the tourney gets punched with 4 more wins. I think 4 more wins seals it. 3 wins makes it interesting, unless one of those is UT, then I think you are in. </div><div>
</div><div>Also, the thing you have to be worried about is being squeezed by the bigger conferences. Big East and Big XII are going to get a lot of teams in and conferences with Butler, Gonzaga, Northern Iowa, Old Dominion all having conference tournaments that could cause teams like MSU to get bounced. </div><div>
</div><div>Just seems like a lot of worrying for MSU fans, just glad AK has decided to make Ole Miss fans worry about the selection process. </div>

You just gotta laugh at some of the crap we throw up. People get mad when Phil Turner launches a three from 10ft behind the line but I'm just like - dude... you know he's going to do it, so who cares?

Kind of like Barry & Dee driving in the lane, then looking like a freshman playing in his first game when they get trapped and have no one to throw to. It happens every game - get used to it.
