Not only was he joking, even if he had been serious, what MLB player or manager has ever gotten fired for expressing political views? You can't just fire someone for being a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Communist, whatever...<div>

I don't think there's any way he should be fired over it, but the Marlins have built their entire team around the Latino community in Miami. He managed to offend quite a bit of that community with his comments. But they weren't racist or derogatory, just political. He's shown contrition and even blamed his poor English for the way they came across. I think he'll be fine.
