Is squatting 240 lbs 100 times in a workout too much?

well 100 times in a set that is timed is different than the question you proposed but that appears to be what was happening. 100 in total shouldn't be TOO bad, hell I'm a 30 year old fat *** and do 3 sets of 15 without any problems (squats are easy for my build though)

if properly administered it wouldnt be that bad of a workout or that dangerous...hell my younger brother has done 10 sets of 10 reps at 315 with about a 60-90 sec break between sets...and he's just a fireman these days

To do 100 straight out with no rest is nothing short of some incredible hulk type stuff. But say 10 sets of10 repswith 1-2 min rest between sets would be a walk in the park. It just depends on the strength and conditioning of the individual along with how you get to the prescribed100 reps.

Your regular Joe trying to keep a New Year's resolution- probably.

A body builder who has been doing body building for 10 years- probably not.

I have 19.5 inch biceps,52 inch chest and between a 34 and 35 inch waist. I had the trainer check this and my body fat a few months ago.The reasonyou lose muscle once youhit my age fast unless you work out. I am 6'1 and weigh about 219. I can tell you from personal experience. You can train your body to handle anything. How in the hell do you think marathon runners train? Those SOB's run Mile upon miles every day. Doing what he is doing the muscle will not grow as fast or big. Heavy weight is how you build but doing what he is doing, you will get stronger and ripped because you are burning more fat in the muscle. At my age I never go heavy any more. I push a lot of light weight with a lot of reps. I get a great burn and maintain what I have. I don't care about getting bigger or impressing people in the gym. I do what I do to keep fit and looking good just in case my wife wise up and leaves my ***. Plus I have a five and seven year old that will consider me a very old man when they get grown.

240 lbsX 100is overtraining! Especially when done at once, butI find it pretty hard to believe that someone did 100 consecutive reps of 240 lbs. Overtraining on a regular basis is not good for the muscles, but if you overtrain once or twice a month to shock the muscles itcan be advantageous. It also depends on what you eat, drinkandhow much you eat, drink. If you don't consume enough calories containingcarbs and protein to supportovertraining you are just pissing in the wind. The symptoms these guys were having would lead me to believe that they are being seriouslyovertrained. </p>
