Not a baseball fan. Don't watch much. Not about to start now, apparently.

Just curious.

I'd say that they are about equal.

2010 pitching > 2009 pitching

2009 hitting > 2010 hitting

2009 defense = 2010 defense

2010 baserunning > 2009 baserunning

Sadly, the records will probably be similar depending on what happens today and tomorrow. Another sweep and our 9 SEC wins in each of the last two years will be hard to top.

Todd, if defense is valued so much more than offense then why do you think Cohen is electing to start Collins(who is supposedly terrible defensively) in CF, and Duffy in left? I'd be surprised if Brownlee or Shepard see the field much more if they can't hit as good as Collins, Duffy, or Butler.

Looks like we're going w/ the offensive options. Also, 7 of the 9 hitters in the lineup today are Polk guys.

My question is, when all Polk's hitters and Cohen's JUCO guys are gone, who are we going to start in the field? Our pitching should be good in 2011 and great in 2012, but won't we be starting mostly first year players in the field? If so, you have to wonder if we'll turn things around as quickly as people think and be as good as expected in year 3 and 4 under Cohen.

You want guys that can hit and field. Collins is hitting better right now. He started off very poorly defensively, but has played better lately. Brownlee won't see much time because he is hurt. I think he shook the lineup up in part not just because of the offense, but also because we have made four errors in our last two games, and weren't that great defensively during the Georgia series. You notice we only made one error today, and you see the result.

I've never said that offense is not important, but if you are forced to choose, you want pitching and defense. I don't remember seeing Vickerson in the lineup today- again because of defense.

We may start a lot of freshmen next year in the field.

Catcher- Probably Freeman and Thigpen again with an occasional Brett Bozeman sighting.
1B- May be a freshman like Wes Rea, Daryl Norris, may be Corey Dickerson if we get him. Could even be Jarrod Parks.
2B- May be Chase Luwallen, Adam Frazier, Rawdow or Frost. Vickerson is a possibility as well
3B- May be Daryl Norris or Parks. Others- Rawdaw, Vickerson, Luwallen, Brayden Jones
SS- Likely Ogden, possibly DeMarcus Henderson, Luwallen or Frazier.
RF- Might be Corey Dickerson if we get him, could be Collins, I'd personally like to see Luke Bole get a shot.
CF- Probably Jaron, might be Collins, could be Brownlee if he is healthy, may be CT Bradford.
LF- Could be Jaron, Ryan Collins, Brownlee, Bradford, Cody Abraham, or Taylor Stark.
DH- Pretty much everyone I listed is a candidate.

There will be a LOT of compeition this fall. Maybe even more than this past fall. Catcher is probably the most settled position I see right now.
