It's typical MSU "real deal" syndrome.
Relf really reminds me a lot of Sleepy Robinson. It's kind of eery. Relf was not highly recruited by anyone out of high school. I remember thinking Tray Rutland II when we signed him. I really didn't think he would play much unless he turned out to be a good TE. I think Sleepy came to MSU as a WR.
Relf has Tyler Russell in the fold. Sleepy had Todd Jordan in the fold. Both Russell and Jordan were highly recruited QB's from 5A public schools in Mississippi. Jordan may have been more highly recruited than Tyler to be honest with you.
Both Relf and Sleepy were/are option QB's.
Both played behind crappy QB's early in their career despite flashes of brilliance- Relf behind Lee, and Sleepy behind Tony Shell.
Both flourished under new coaches.
Both kicked Ole Miss's ***.
We'll see if Relf follows Sleepy's lead, I really think he could. It seems like all of the ingredients are there for him to take that next step. I just hope Relf doesn't blow his knee out like Sleepy.
