Is there a reason nobody is talking about Prohm from Murray State?

I know this is the first year we've really heard of the guy, but his team plays hard and they are playing (and beating) some really good teams this year. He's the type of guy that I think we should strongly consider if we can't get a Shaka Smart (which seems unlikely). I would hate to think he was a one hit wonder and hire someone else, only to see him have another good season next year and go on to be successful at a BCS conference school.....especially if it were an Ole Miss, LSU, etc within our conference

and even Anderson won big his first year as coach. Mark Gottfried, Mick Cronin, and Billy Kennedy all parlayed the Murray State gig into a bigger job. Coach34 could win at Murray State. This is Prohm's first year and he was a little shocked to be named coach. He has done a good job with this veteran team and wouldbe a good backup plan. </p>

Exactly. This is his first year as a head coach, and he has never even been an assistant at a major college.

I'm not saying he has proven a ton, but he took his team to a one loss regular season and won a game in the NCAA tourney in his first ever year as head coach. That doesn't happen on talent alone......and we should know that as a complete fact

But it does mean that should probably look for someone who is a little more proven. He has succeeded for one season with an inherited veteran team at a school where many others have succeeded. He could be amazing in the same way that Hugh Freeze could be amazing at Ole Miss. Or he could fall on his face. We shouldn't have to take such a risk with the success the past two coaches have shown is possible for our program.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div>

did when he became head coach at MSU.

Don't get me wrong, I see what you're saying and I agree with most of it. But how do you weigh a guy like the Kentucky assistant that isn't a head coach versus Prohm who IS a head coach and has even won a tourney game at a small school? The Kentucky guy has more experience overall, but Prohm has already proven to be a good head coach. Yet, we supposedly have the UK guy on our short list. I just find it interesting I guess. Not arguing it, just weighing it a little bit

Perhaps Prohm was the man behind the curtain when Prohm was at Murray State?<div>
</div><div>It would be a gamble, but we could potentially get a great coach on the cheap with Prohm.</div>

right before the season started. Hiring Prohm would be like when Arkansas hired Stan Heath because in his one year at Kent State he took them to the Elite Eight. We all saw how that worked out.

Tevester and Ron Greene. Dumb move by RG to leave MSU in the late 70s.

Left after one year but to me, the main "driver" for leaving was the way Bob Tyler, the AD, treated him. Tyler was going through his "egomaniacal stage" and no one was allowed to get more press than Bob.

I had season tickets right behind our bench and he was definitely entertaining. Plus, he brought in some good recruits.

Oh yeah, Tyler 'replaced' Greene with Jimmy Hatfield who managed to have a 3 year loosing record of 40-42 and a sterling 21-33, 39% SEC record... only to be replaced by 'legendary' Bob Boyd who was even more of a loser with a 5 year 55-87, 38% OVERALL record and an even worse 89-113, 32% SEC record.

Maddox was only at MSU for some five years after his forced retirement from LSU but I liked his hires of Boyd and Bellard as well as starting the expansion of and lighting of Scott Field.
