yes it had Kal Wells and Jeff Malone, but that was a dreadful team. The 16 pts to OM in the 1st half was simply a dumpster fire

Bob Boyd had 3 decent SEC players, 2 juco players, and all-American Jeff Malone

In 1982, State had a perfectly dreadful team.

Kalpatrick Wells was a good defender but had hands of stone. Butch Pierre was almost competent at times at Point Guard. Terry Lewis was a decent power forward (in a shooting forward's body), and Jeff Malone was one of the all-time MSU greats. You had 5' 10" freshman Jeff Norwood as one backup, and Mackye Whyte, who was a poor man's Baxter Price, as the other.

The whole offense was based on two things: 1) letting the air out of the ball, and 2) getting Jeff Malone open.

They were horrid on the road, but always played close games at Humphrey coliseum. They beat #7 Kentucky, and I believe they beat Auburn (with Freshman Charles Barkley) at home as well. They lost to Georgia 26-21, trying to keep Dominique Wilkins from going off on our defense.

Yes.

Malone would outscore this team by himself. Remember Malone didn't have the benefit of the 3 point line.

Boyd hated recruiting. He was a superb floor coach. Ask Eustachy, Brady and WIlliams. They will agree and quickly give him credit for their success.

If there was a 3-point line, State would've won 20 games easy in 1983....

..Malone could jack it up there at 20' and beyond, couple hands in the face, and still score.

Then again, if they had the shot clock, we might've only won 5-6 games.
