Is this the best South Carolina can/will ever be?

Steve Spurrier has been there six seasons, it's is obvious that this is his best team during that period. Can they be better or will they? They are in the same situation we were in in 1998. Five and three in conference playing the number one team in the country in the SEC chanpionship. In 1998 the West was weak and we were a little better then average much like the East this year, it's weak and SC is a little better then average. Face it lighting struck for us in 98. We had a better then average team at the right time. Much to SC success this season is the fact that the East is weak. So I ask again, is this the best we will ever see out of SC?

and that the West was way down, etc. This is the first time I've seen someone mention the same thing about SC.

I pretty well convinced college ball has passed the OLD ball coach by for the most part. He has pretty good assistants, and he's still a good recruiter, and that equals the current SC team. That Southern Miss game really highlighted the difference in talent level to me, and the Alabama game did the same - better than most talent, pretty good coordinators, and if they can keep Stevie squirming around on the sidelines instead of calling plays they are pretty damn good. When he takes over the play calling, they are pretty terrible - remember those four strait fades to the end-zone that nut called last year? That was 17n bizarre. So, yeah, I would agree that this is about as good as they get, because much like state in the 90's, this is pretty much peak talent level for them (good, but not elite), and they don't have a really innovative coach who has the new "system" that hasn't yet been figured out. It's that different in talent on the field that separates the alabamas and LSUs from the SC and auburns. The difference this year is auburn has cam and Gus.

And I think SC wups auburn Saturday.

MSU was criticized because in those days the East was considered vastly superior, and in 1998 MSU did not play Florida, Tennessee, or Georgia.

The West was down with Auburn, Alabama, and LSU combining to go 7-17 in conference play. This season those teams are 19-5 with most of the losses coming against each other.

I knew it was 6 and 2. I was thinking about South Carolina when I put 5 and 3.
