Is Willie Love still a take?

Apparently he backed off committing to RU last month and was going to commit elsewhere but that school backed off because they filled up at LB. Now he's between Syracuse and RU. Apparently there may be some grades issues with the young man. Do we know if RU has passed on him?

Not quite right, It appears that the School that backed off taking his Commit last week was closer to home, likely that Syr. Will be his landing spot at this point. It is unfortunate that when the music stops sometimes there are no chairs left. Seems as though some of these kids get poor advise and end up out of luck, in cards and recruiting never overplay your hand

I mean…. He’s a top 10 recruit in NJ. We were taking 2 star kids in the winter for the 2023 class.
But he had his chance to commit and passed apparently looking for bigger names that never materialized. Maybe those "names" don't see him as a 4*.

The 2024 Class has 2 of the Top 10 NJ Recruits. Add in Kenny Jones and we only currently have 3 of the Top 20 of the NJ Recruits. Far from a success locally…. However on the right path vs LY’s huge drop off. Unless there are some unknown personal reasons we should not be overlooking Willy Love.

He decided to take more time and Greg took another commit in his place. He fired his adviser after it became apparent there was no room at RU.

Plus he would be coming in as a LB at RU, the 4* rating was as a S which he's grown out of for RU's scheme.

At the Rivals camp, he registered as a safety & did poorly in coverage. So he's going to slide in the next rankings no matter where he was committing.

A LB or hybrid S type would need to decommit for Love to have a slot again. Kind of surprised he hasn't committed to Sewercuse yet to at least hold a spot.

Are "hired" advisors now allowed since NIL?

Kid will be ok regardless if he was to play here or Cuse. I get it, we hate them but, the kid will be playing in P5 and if he shows off talent- it doesnt matter if it is up in that Shathole or down her.

BTW- did he commit to us and decommit or did he just not decide in time...

Then why all the bad blood in this thread?

It’s funny- we went through this and being as ignorant as I was back then about the recruiting game(and so happy I was) every school we visited did the same thing “decide before you leave or we have to move on to our next choice” and all of them were calling right before we had to fax in tge commit. Lol and good thing we told all of them that, because Rutgers was the last offer and visit.
I would hate to be in the new recruiting game.

I also remembered when the good move was to go and visit every school before making your choice. Less of a chance to decommit to go elsewhere. Now the name of the game is now CHOSE US FIRST OR GOOD BYE (AND YOU NOW SUCK)!!!

Isn’t the first time this happened to a decent/good recruit. A recent recruit who was all but set to commit to go to Rutgers had his Rutgers offer pulled at the last minute because he got an offer from elsewhere and wanted to make an official visit the week before he was to make his announcement.

Damm shame they did this to Willy Love, a kid who wanted to look at all of his options before making a decision. Once upon a time this was the honorable thing to do but now is apparently frowned upon and kids must make their decision asap.

Don’t know why some are doing it, wherever he goes the school is getting a good athlete. I think that is getting lost in the shuffle.

I read on the Rotted Fruit board of all places that Love spent the rest of June going to 7v7 tournaments with his team rather than taking visits. If true, priorities were in the wrong place.

Who is the recent recruit you are referencing since it doesn’t sound like Love’s situation?

It does seem the kid has some horrible advi$$$ors not really looking out for him. Playing 7v7 is about NIL and not getting a solid fit for him.

I mean schools can't hold a spot for you forever. At least Rutgers was honest. You don't even know how high he was on their board. From all I've been hearing he's a tweener and his stock is going down. He'll still get a scholarship to play at a D1 school which is amazing for him and his family.

I don't know how it pays out any more but in the old days- it seemed if you went on a visit and told the coaches you plan on taking all 5 OV's- most were on-board. If you just say you want to hold off and not taking visits but just camping and playing 7v7- it would be less likely to hold that spot.

Nothing about this is new or unique. His spot filled up, Rutgers got a bunch of LB prospects to commit early before Willie. If they still needed LBs he'd still have a spot available. There was no "pulling of the offer last minute".

Most people believe this to have first happened during the Flood years and 2012. But, it wasn't "really" the case. We had some verbal commits and they came back to Flood and told him they wanted to take other visits. He told them "go ahead, but I would no longer consider you a commit" - but, he had not pulled the offer. Their offers were still committable until they were filled by someone else but they were not held.
Most posters at the time loved the message - until they didn't- and then the story changed that Flood strong armed the kids and pulled their offers.

I also remember back in the mid GS 1.0 days- he often told recruits to take all their visits. Now, he wouldn't promise to hold their spots but he did tell them he preferred if they took them.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I would imagine it has to do with the amount of decommits and flips these days which is much higher that it was during GS 1.0.
