It didn't get any better for Deboer in the postgame

How long do you think he has? End of next season?
I have a hard time seeing them keeping him around after this season if they don't make the playoff again.

Is that an impossible standard? For sure, but it's Alabama.

I don't either, but if they play all year like they played on Saturday, they'll see that 4th loss well before the bowl season this year.

The Wisconsin game will be crucial. A loss there would set them up for a 1-3 start. The state would be burning down at that point.

I don’t know.I’ve heard with buyout, new coach and retaining current player it might cost as much as 100 mil to fire Deboer after this year. The days of the Jimbo Fisher buyouts are likely over.

Yeah, it's a $70 million buyout for Deboer during/after this season.

Alabama doesn't have Texas or A&M money. But then you get into the question of what do you lose financially by bringing him back for another bad year?

I don't doubt Bama with their boosters could come up with that kind of money, the bigger question is going to be, who would they go after, and would that individual want the job.

I’ve heard 70mil for the buyout plus 5 mil or so for the staff buyouts plus 10 mil for new coach plus what they say would be at least 20 mil to retain the roster and prevent a mass portal exodus. If you listened to Finenaum last night even the crazies like Legend realize they are stuck for probably this year and next. From a wealthy booster standpoint Alabama is about like Carolina,Just not even deep pockets to come up with that amount.I base that on Alabama endowment much closer to Carolina than Texas A and M.

Ironic as I always heard Bear Bryant was paying players. Back then it was probably a few hundred dollars.

Read The Undefeated by Jim Dent about the Oklahoma teams of the 40’s and 50’s.Coach Jim Tatum had 100k cash in his bottom desk drawer for paying players. He got mad and suddenly resigned taking the Maryland job.New Coach Bud Wilkinson looked in the drawer upon taking the Oklahoma HC job .Nothing there. They could call the law cause they were cheating so they called some oilmen and replenished the drawer.

Deboer is being called vanilla soft serve ice cream by the Bama faithful. It's not a matter of losing the fan base at this point...they are lost. It's a matter of whether he can get them back or not. I think I read that since beating UGA last season, they are 4-5 against P4 teams.

I do think Bama fans need to accept the reality that, for as long as Saban dominated there, his success was really an anomaly. Without a great coach, they are probably a 9-3/8-4 type program with the occasional great season mixed in.

Of course, it's to everyone else's advantage if they begin to churn through coaches trying to find the next Saban.

That is a lot of money and the Bama fan base isn't full of billionaires. I think he's safe for this year but next year will be do or die. The Bama fan base is totally unrealistic about what they are without Saban. Saban was there for 17 seasons and in all but the first, Bama was in the thick of the national championship talk. There are quite a few Bama fans who, as adults, have never known Bama to not be in the championship hunt. They really feel like playing for championships every year is a birthright.

If Bama loses to UGA, UT, LSU and, God forbid, Auburn, Deboer will be on a hot seat like no other next season. That said, Bama has plenty of talent and they could turn things around.

If pay inspires performance, what does a $70 million buyout encourage?

After each big name coach is fired with a humongous buyout, people say the days of the big buyouts are coming to an end. They never do.

Yep. As an indicator, tickets to this weekend's game against Louisiana-Monroe are going for as little as $10 on the secondary market. By comparison, tickets for our game against SC State are going for $40 and Auburn's game against Ball State are going for $30. The Alabama game is, by far, the cheapest ticket in the SEC this week and that includes a fair number of dud games.

So for $10 this weekend, Tuscaloosans will have to decide if they want to go to the Bama game or that little carnival that sets up in the mall parking lot.

I remember when he came to Bama he said he was not going to allow cursing at practices by the coaching staff or players.

I knew then he wasn't going to make it.

The look on his face reminds of when Lorenzo Ward was in a presser during that disastrous 2014 season and he just had this utterly shell shocked and completely helpless look on his face.

I actually felt kind of sorry for him at that moment.

Just saw report from Andy Staples that Deboer’s buyout is set up to be equal monthly installments from the date of termination through the end of 2031. The money is the same, but it becomes much more manageable that way because it’s a line item you can budget for. Boosters don’t have to come up with $70 million on the spot.

That changes everything. DeBoer is on the hot seat right now but he can turn it around. Now, if he loses to UGA on the 27th and Tennessee on Oct. 18th, he will be in real trouble.

Unless Alabama makes the playoff I think they're going to find the money to make it happen.

If he can win three of the UGA, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn games he will be safe even if they don't make the playoff. If he loses two or more of those he is probably gone.

A loss to us would probably bring out the pitchforks.

If he wins three of those games and doesn't make the playoff then that means he lost to other "inferior" competition. I think it's playoffs or bust for DeBoer.

All I know is that I am reveling in their misery. The longer it continues the more I like it.
