Where’s the American spirit? Where’s the spunk? I swear it feels at times as if we’re lying down to this pandemic. Yes, I know it’s bad but a crippled America is worse. And a crippled America is what our enemies want.

I’m probably too much of a hard liner in this but damn it feels like we’ve become soft as Charmin collectively as a nation. I’m not trying to offend anyone but this is teetering on complete lunacy.

Please America, bring back the toughness, unyielding spirting and resilience that made us great to begin with. This isn’t the time to wilt and this isn’t the America I grew up believing in. We need to put this train in drive and start moving forward.

Just sick and tired of all the ********. Drops of continual negativity wear away the hardest of stones.

Many of the same people who are so upset about the season possibly being canceled are also adamant about not needing to social distance and wear a mask. (not directed at KB in particular, but the general public)

The last 2 months, way too many have not taken the virus seriously. Thus, we are now at a point where it may not be safe to have the season.

Absolutely sucks. Possibly UK's best team in many years.

Toughness means nothing when dealing with an airborne pandemic. This isn’t playing a football game through a strained hamstring. Way too many people were of the belief that if you didn’t die from it then the virus isn’t that bad and don’t take it seriously when no one knows the long term health effects. Recent studies show that 3/4 of people who contract it experience heart issues similar to someone recovering from a heart attack. Point being no one knows what to expect.

And I agree with the sentiment that it doesn’t make sense for the students to all be back on campus and then also not have football but at some point you have to reap what you sow and America as a whole **** the bed in regards to this pandemic. Now we can all watch Korean baseball or New Zealand rugby all fall as punishment.

We raised a generation that their balls never dropped .

No, in actuality we have had too many that have never been taught how to think for themselves (and/or how to act and treat other people with respect for that matter) and they are having the next generation and have no idea how to teach what they never were taught and that cycle is only getting worse.

Respectfully, there are also recent studies that show this is being blown completely out of proportion. Just depends on which studies you want to base your decision making process on.

I agree all these wusses should have cowboys up and took this stuff serious to begin with and we would have football right now.

This should have been our world war 2 come together moment, but instead we got The equivalent of people intentionally leaving their black out curtains open so we can get carpet bombed from above.

the tough thing to do has been and always will be to do what’s right, and that’s taking this crap serious, caring about your neighbor, and doing a short term sacrifice for a long term gain.
But instead we get Kevin’s and Karen’s our pulling guns on ppl for asking them to wear masks. Bunch of damn snowflakes

I've used the word ***** more times the past 2 days than I have in the past 2 years combined.

Using it regarding how some are acting towards this virus.

I really can't wrap my head around it.

I'm just not even going to give a comment on this. However I can think of several I could make if I were so inclined !![laughing]

I have been looking at articles from other countries, particularly European. We arent the only country where people dont want to wear masks/social distance. That's just a bull crap sentiment that everyone has been spreading. Germany just had a protest with tens of thousands of people against the lockdowns. I saw an article from France where the health officials were confused about how the virus suddenly stopped, because many werent following restrictions. In the last few days, it seems France, Spain, Germany are about to see a big spike as well. Those countries and their spikes are just delayed because they opened slower, and in some cases are still heavily restricted. But it's still coming, all they did was delay the spike we are seeing currently. Not to mention other countries count deaths differently than us.

Whatever an actual national science based plan would require.
I don’t know what that would be now. This **** is a wildfire and should have been stamped out from the start, at least now there is global precedence in how to better contain and fight it.
Our close our eyes and says it’s going to go away plan sure ain’t working

I wonder about That too, my best thoughts on it is that South Korea had it right, lock down get it under “control” have aggressive contact trace and utilize that to snuff out flare ups as they happen.
Provide government support for those that have to quarantine due to contact exposure
and start only paying for lab results received within 48 hours (no more of this ******** two week wait stuff) get you labs crap together or get off the govt approved list

I also get annoyed by the sentiment of "well if people werent selfish we could have this or that".

The logic that 350 million people should be expected to follow suit to accomplish a single goal is beyond far fetched. It's actually completely dumb and along the lines of a 40 year old still believing in Santa. We as people could also prevent the tens of thousands of flu deaths, or do those not matter and govt shouldn't put us in timeout for that? How about STDs, if people did their part, it would stop being spread, should govt cancel sex until we are good? Whats stopping them from cancelling cars with the same logic to stop deaths? Why do we need alcohol, which causes tens of thousands of deaths per year?

No, that's not how life works. Theres always a risk to living. Theres also a risk to wanting less govt/control in your life. Saying it's okay to shut things down because you expect 350 million people to follow orders, makes you the ignorant one. (Not directed toward you, KingBeast)

Well 2 weeks and flatten the curve was what nih and CDC said. Now we can't have any cases. Not one hospital is overrun...anywhere. If we do this til we hit zero you might as well stock up on food and gas because now the effects of shutdown are going to be worse than covid.

50% of a country can't just sit in house while the other 50% work to produce food and power.

And global precedent for quarantine is for sick people to isolate. Quaranting an entire population is suicide.

Right, but South Korea is a fraction of the size, easier to trace, does not have a border that thousands cross regularly, and is almost an island based off of how tight their Northern border is. It's not fair to compare. As nice as it would be to follow suit.

Thanks for making my point it should have been a national plan. We would have been able to open up areas that were under control, turn the faucet on and off.
Instead you have states doing everything you can to try and hide the truth about how many cases they have. standardize and make it transparent,
Transparency is what caught the small labs in Florida that were reporting 100% cases, they were caught and corrected. but when you hide hospitalization rates or deaths. You leave an uncertainty and everyone starts to fight over the uncertainty.

There have been ~80k ppl die from the flu each year. We’re beyond that and counting.
I understand you basic premise, but the answer isn’t to give up because it’s hard.

The answer is to come together and find solutions, saying this is just like a car crash Death is the lazy answer and the wrong answer.

like I said before the right answer is often the hard answer.

(This is not to be read in a sarcastic tone) so what do you think the best way to contain and minimize transmission in the US as a whole should be?

Sometimes the hard answer isn't what you want to hear so you want to believe in a magic fix. We can not shutdown for 8 months and with where we are, that's what you'd have to do to get to zero.

South Korea didn't lockdown anyway, which is something that coronabros like to conveniently overlook.

because they were aggressive in containment early on, good point though, shows if you get it tamped down you can potentially track it and slow it/control it.

So do you personally have a number of deaths until we should start caring to stop deaths? I understand COVID is worse, but how many deaths is worthy of stopping the daily lives of 350 million people? There is no solid plan for a country of our size, with the immigration we receive, unless you want govt officials pulling you from your home and locking you in hospitals (as China did). It has to be realized that freedom isnt always going to mean safety. Everyone has the freedom to protect themselves, stay at home, order online, etc. I just dont condone people applauding others lives being halted/ruined for the sake of a virus that is, by far and wide, killing people that dont really need to be out and about anyway (40% of deaths are from nursing homes, the age range of deaths are by far and wide, mostly retirement aged people). But instead we are keeping younger people put up because they are being naughty and for some reason arent scared of a virus that they have a better risk of drowning than dieing from.

Theres really not an answer to solve it besides doing ones best to protect oneself and trying ones best not to spread it. We are a unique country, for better or worse. A vaccine can slow it, but it will be with us for a long time. We must learn to live with it, without destroying every other aspect of life.
