Game 1 Oklahoma State: MSU- Untested secondary, average LB’s, unproven WR’s v Oklahoma St.- Proven QB, high powered offense and on a neutral field. Historically, Mullen’s teams struggle against offenses that are “high powered.” Troy & A&M come to mind last year. (L) 0-1

Game 2 Alcorn State: If we can’t beat Alcorn St., we shouldn't be in the SEC. (W) 1-1

Game 3 Auburn: We've beaten Auburn 2 times in the last 11 years, Malzhan (sp?) will improve Auburn’s offense, and I just don’t think our young secondary will get the job done. I think this will be a high scoring game and a very close game, but I’m going with history in this one. (L) 1-2

Game 4 Troy: Close game for three quarters but we pull away late. We win by 12 points or less. (W) 2-2

Game 5 LSU: We’ve only beat LSU 2 times in 22 years; it isn’t happening this year either. LSU has too many athletes on both sides of the ball for us to match up with them. When they need it, they line up and run the ball down our throats. This game will be close for a half; LSU pulls away in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half. (L) 2-3

Game 6 Bowling Green: This game could get interesting and may be one of those games that we look back on wondering how we lost to Maine, I mean Bowling Green! Mullen beats the teams he is supposed to beat. We win by 17 or less. (W) 3-3

Game 7 Kentucky: Mullen has never lost to Kentucky, and the streak will continue. We win by 10-14 points. (W) 4-3

Game 8 USCe: The last time we played South Carolina; we had ample opportunities to win but could not finish drives. South Carolina is a different team at home; they play on another level and have a tremendous defense. Their offense is often times overrated due to their high profiled coach, their QB’s are average at best. This game will be close as well, and if we had them at home I may call this an upset, but I don’t think we beat them at their place. (L) 4-4

Game 9 Texas A&M: Maybe Mullen and staff will have our team ready to play and make up for one of the worst performances/efforts I’ve witnessed under Mullen’s regime. We won’t beat A&M on the road with a healthy Manziel. * I think Manziel may be less than 100% by this time of the season and this prediction may change based on his availability. (L) 4-5

Game 10 Bama: It’s Bama. (L) 4-6

Game 11: Arkansas: I think this is a toss-up, have we ever won a football game in Little Rock? I think Arkansas will have an identity by this time of the year, I don’t think they will have a late year melt down like they did last season. Arkansas lacks talent and this may be another opportunity for us to grab a much needed SEC win. Based on history, I have to give a slight edge to Upig. (L) 4-7

Game 12 The Egg Bowl: I’m not sold on Bo Wallace, Ole Miss has athletes on defense but coaches now have film and can study Freeze’s tendencies. I really think Ole Miss will struggle through the first part of their season and this will take a toll on their team chemistry. If our fans and team haven’t lost all confidence by this time of the season; I think we beat Ole Miss and the egg comes back to Starkville. (W) 5-7

It’s going to be a long season, we will not go to a bowl this year but I really think we can make noise in 2014. I think this year’s team may be slightly better than last year’s, but we don’t have the schedule to create a falsehood. Mullen needs to recruit if we want to compete, period.

But, in response to your analysis, I think you are off by 1. I think we win one of Auburn or Arkansas. I know both are on the road, but both will have new coaches, new systems etc. I may eat crow about this later, but I really do not think Bielema is going to work out at UPig.

If Mullen doesn`t coach much differently than he did last year and we`re 4-7 heading into the Eggbowl we finish 4-8. Both he and the team will have laid down by then.

If we're 4-7 heading into egg bowl, mullens will be 100% focused on recruiting. ................

Worst case scenario. When will people realize that we will have at least 2 NFL draft picks starting in the secondary? Same amount as last year but not in Cover 3.

I read it but didn't "enjoy" it....but it's probably accurate but possibly off by one....somewhere.

i may be sorely mistaken but i think ARK is going to be, well, not very good. i think belemia was a terrible hire. they do not and will not, IMO have the athletes to go big 10 smash mouth with the likes of bama, lsu and even msu and ole miss. you never know but i think ARK will have a very long year.

Hey you could be right. We never know what MSU is going to do. My dad told me long ago to never bet on MSU even if it's a "sure thing" and I'm not going to elaborate further.

You are over looking our defense in a massive way. When you said LSU can run over us if they want because we don't have the athletes. Here some analysis. We have 3 5stars and 3 4stars as our first 6 DL and some 3s that have turned into good players. (R. Brown, P. Smith). At LB we have several 4 stars in Wells, B. Brown, R. Brown, and also a 2star in McKinney who is All-SEC talent. We also know there is talent, yet mostly unproven at an SEC level, but talent in the secondary nonetheless. So, you're argument Mullen needs to recruit and we can't line up with LSU's athletes is not a valid one. LSU probably has more talent than us in real life and based on recruiting services, but our two deep is definitely talented enough to compete with them.

In my opinion, the only "weakness" on our team that could play out would be at WR, but I don't think it will. I think we have a lot of talent there and guys that are hungry to emerge. At this point anyone could become a big time player for us and a leader. It's anyone's game at WR, so hopefully some of them have the desire to do that and I think it will happen.

I'll make a prediction on the season when it's time for it, but I do think we can win as many as 9 regular season games and as few as 5 games.

Will you brag about being right if we go 7-5?

My thoughts exactly**

But hey, 4 months ago, there were Engie call out threads on here for 3-4 weeks in a row for CONSTANTLY defending how good our baseball team was...

The majority of our fan base remembers the last 5 minutes and that's it. Very little ability to see or stay focused on the big picture...

That's easy to spot in people basing ultimately their entire perspective on what they saw in the last few games last year -- instead of the reality of the changes we've made and the talent we've got coming back

Man earlier today I was sitting around hoping that BogeyGolfer would give us his thoughts on what our record would be.**

Wow! IF it comes down to this in year 5, then WE truly are Miss Stake. We cannot take 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. If this is what the general consensus of MSU fans is, then we made the wrong hire 5 years ago.

Consistency should at least suggest 6 to 7 wins. If so the program in regressing not impressing.

OK. ST.-L, Alcorn-W, Albarn-W, Troy-W, LSU-L, BGU-W, UK-W, USCe-L, A&M-L, Bama-L, UArk-W, EggFaces-W. The only toss up in that list should be Albarn. Anything less, and just skip to Rick Ray version II.

WE?** Yes, this is the general consensus of MSU fans: We're just happy with a victory over the "regressing" 5-7 EggFeces "EggFaces".**

Average LB's huh? Do you even follow football at all? The LB core is going to

be pretty damn good. You are the eternal pessimists.........

You want to know why we'll go 7-5? Because everyone thinks were going 5-7. I love these years.

I really think y'all beat Arky and Auburn but I think the my Rebels pull it out as long as our team plays like I believe they will. I understand my views and y'all's should be opposite but I really think that's how it plays out and you guys go bowling again this year.

Man I hope this is the case. My concern is scheme. Even if you have a talented secondary, they, along with the OL are the position that cohesion and assignment are pinnacle for success. Breakdowns at that position are exploited faster than any other in football. Joe Lee Dunn was blasted for not blitzing as much in the late 90's and his response was that if you have a cohesive, good coverage backfield, blitzes weren't needed because you took the chances of a big draw play and an underneath completion out of the equation. I think we should be aggressive with pressure, especially in obvious passing downs, but don't be shocked when we get beat deep. The good thing is if Malcolm can be a go to target on the quick outs and the 7 yard slants, with our OL, it won't take long to answer scores.

This makes me feel better. I know there are legitimate arguments as to why we could go 5-7, but for some reason listening to a proven idiot give bad reasons for why we might go 5-7 makes me feel better. I can't wait to hear his explanation in 12 months for how he was right even though he missed our record by two games, when 99%+ of MSU fans were able to get within two games, and 75% were able to get within one game.
