and Cameron Hutzler is still employed by Mississippi State University.

Coastal freaking Carolina fired Tim Beck for going 6-6.
Stoops is on his way out at Kentucky

I'd take both over Lebby.

Whether we like it or not, signing day is Wednesday and I believe that does factor in. Like I said, like it or not, it's reality in this day and age.

I think what we get out of the portal is more important what we get out of high school. Recruiting rankings really doesn't matter other than bragging rights. Just my opinion.
Recruiting rankings mean squat. Seen too many guys sign with Alabama/Georgia/LSU and automatically get a five star.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter for us. Nobody's going to poach any of our recruits. And we're not going to suddenly add a few 4*s.
They have already poached the ones they wanted I guess. Hopefully, Wednesday will end up being okay for us, although there's not too much pressure on that day anymore. I think it's been proven Lebby can get good skill players (4 of the top 14 wide receivers in the conference this year) and probably will again.

The most important question for the future is going to be OL, DL, and CB. And that question won't be answered with high school guys Wednesday. Those are portal players.

He's not going to fire him. We went through this last year. And now he can tout 'muh improvement'.

The emerging theory/narrative/whatever is the blue bloods can still rely on High School recruiting and a few select transfers, while the rest of us are in position to live off their discards.

Saw a discussion on SEC Network that Kiffin will need to switch gears at LSU and recruit out of High School more. (Yes, I know LSU has had some notable transfers)

There is still a distinct advantage in having players in your system for 4 or 5 years. Transfers dont always pan out.

One thing I've never been worried about with Lebby is wide receivers and the passing game. Everything else, I worry about.

Yeah, it's ranked #46.... 12 behind Rutgers and last in the SEC by 10.

Surely we will make up for it in the portal.......
I would assume we are saving our money for the portal. Too many immediate needs and not much incentive for us to bid for high school players just to have to turn around and bid again in a year or two if they show promise.

Doesn't mean we are going to have a good portal haul. But I don't know how we give ourselves a chance in the portal unless we skimp on high school recruits.

Oh yeah, I can already see the campaign coming to give to the SEF because we won't need 15M this year, we'll need 20M. All to go all-in on Lenny's last year to save his job.

I'd rather go 3-9 for cheap and get a real coach. What's crazy to me is that so many big boosters are willing to spend on this Goof Troop.

See, its not hard at all to do especially in the 2nd year cause the Huskers are doing it after one season.

If you fire an awful defensive coordinator after two years no one else will take the job. I base that opinion on the vast amount of research that says so.***

You fire if you know you can do better and I know some of you will say anyone is better, but there are lots of people that would be the same and then we're paying more money for the same things.

If you could get a DJ Durkin, you make the move. Several other guys as well. But Lebby is going to be seen as being on the hot seat and our NIL chest is well behind our competition so that's going to make it hard to attract top guys.

That's not the Mississippi State way though. If we fire someone a year too late, it's early for us.
They ranked 7th out of the 18 in the Big 10 Total Defense, so not too bad. But when you hold people accountable to a higher standard instead of letting them learn on the job over a long period of time as you continue to lose, this is the type move you expect to make.

As I've said before, if you have to learn on the job in the SEC, you were a bad hire. You have to be ready to hit the ground running in this league.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but the only way that our defensive signing day class could be worse at this point is if we signed the air from bag of Lays.

This class is one of the worst in the entire P4 in terms of average rating, and only 2 of our top 10 commits are defensive players.

That said, I really would hate to lose this guy

100%. Let me also add that one of the most irritating things about MSU athletics is how we love to talk about how "smart" we are with our money. We can't fire this coach or that coach because of the buyouts, only to then go blow millions on guys like Hutz, a 3rd string QB, and this Jans portal class that UAB would be embarrassed by.

Let's face it Lebby is a "duck" coach, what quality DC would come to work for him right now ?

I'm still fine with making a move here....he was clearly better than last year but it wasn't a massive upgrade. We still probably has the leagues worst DL and that makes it hard for anybody and you'll see that in the fact that we were probably the worst rush defense in the league.

Our passing defense was better and while it wasn't anything great, we did pressure QBs more often than the previous year. Our sack rate was up and our havoc rate was up.
