For those asking for Slive's e-mail

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to the SEC office, its: [email protected] . I couldn't find it anywhere on the SEC website, so I called. I want those cowbells gone and showing the Commish that they can be used as weapons in several different ways(and the SEC office could be liable for damages) might be a way to do that.

Good for you, Class...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Byrne and Mullen should also be on alert, because of the fact that they *encouraged the MSU fans to forget the rule and bring them anyway. I'd mention that in any letters that people send to him. Although they were already potentially weapons, by their nature, they are officially so now.

Here's the link (again) to the article about the MSU student getting hurt:

good for you class. I have tried in the past to get it, and was told I would have to "fax" it to them, and that they did NOT have email addresses. I last called when our tennis team was sent to Baton Rouge last year in the NCAA tournament. Again, kudos.

Thanks for Slive's email.

He's hearing from me as well. It's preposterous that this rule isn't enforced. What if SEC fans ( other than Alabama's, of course ) blew whistles in the stands ? Ya' think the SEC Office would put up with that ?

Nice to do that, but I have faith that will accomplish nothing. Write the NCAA and let them know the SEC has a lack of control, which apparently is true. The SEC can't manage what schools do and the lack of control is leading to multi-million dollar lawsuits to protect the fans who want to enjoy a sporting event but can't.

That could get some heat where it belongs, under Slive's backside.

I would own Scott field if I had been hit with one

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would personally sue, Byrne(personally), Mullen(personally) for encouraging an illegal cowbells to be brought to the stadium. I would sue State because they knowingly let them enter the stands and I would sue the SEC for allowing them to be in SEC games and being complicit. The ADs legally voted remedies to be enforced with the cowbells. The SEC refs are not using them and State is openly flaunting their use.

Every stadium and every SEC ticket has warnings about illegal noisemakers. You can be hit with them, you can get hurt with the clangers simply flying off the bells while being rung and you can suffer hearing loss from the ringing. Not only that, but they give State a distinct home advantage. At least a couple of our offside calls were as a result of the cowbells. 45-50,000 voices in that open venue would not give them the same effect. I read here that somebody said their daughter was hit with one of the clangers. If she could prove that, she should sue the fool out of State.

My email to Mike Slive

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commissioner,

I am writing you this email in reference to the artificial noisemaker rule that is consistently being broken at Mississippi State University. In fact, not only is this rule being broken, but Athletic Director Greg Byrne is encouraging Mississippi State fans to bring them to the games. Just this past weekend, there was an incident in which one fan assaulted another by hitting them in the head with an artificial noisemaker. The assaulted fan suffered severe head injuries.

Commissioner, when will you start enforcing this rule? We have the best conference in America and we do not need it tarnished by incidents such as this.

Thank you for your time.

Damn, I wish someone had hit me. Ole Miss could have gotten an endowed schollie and they could pave over Scott Field. I would have loved to buy a condo in Oxford with State's money

Especially, the suing MSU, Byrne, and Mullen part. These people crack me up.

If you want to get into the liability topic, couldn't you trace it all the way back to the conference itself? Any lawyer here want to take a stab at that? The conference has a policy against artificial noisemakers. It's blatantly obvious that we have several thousand noisemakers in the stands every week and it's not secret as to what they come from. The SEC has ignored cowbells every bit as much as MSU or any other party has. They have the ability to influence MSU's and the fan's actions via penalties and fines. That's never happened. The SEC has allowed the cowbell environment to exist just as much as MSU. If MSU, Byrne, Mullen or any other MSU-affiliated party can be held liable for an individual being a dumbass, certainly the SEC could as well. I'm not suggesting the SEC (or MSU for that matter) should be sued. But, I bet they would have a kind word or two should anybody decide to start suing institutions over an individual's assault of another individual.

The school that attracts klandouchenozzles (both as students and as walkons), that has to act officially to discourage blatantly racist propaganda by and among its fan base, that has a history of violent oppression of minority enrollees - this school? - this school wants to lead the charge in the cause of protecting people from the evils of the cowbell?

Did I hear that the NCAA does not recognize the "artificial noisemaker" rule therefore the SEC rule is unenforceable? Seems like I heard on a sports talk show that even if the band wanted to play during the on field action, according to the rules, they could.

Then again, maybe I just imagined this ****.

what happened to telling us how much they liked our coach?

Its 17'ing hilarious that now we are finally headed in the right direction, nobody is telling us- "just give Mullen time, he'll get it done"...."that Dan Mullen is a good man, I really like him...you guys made a good hire"..."I wish our coach was more like Dan Mullen"

Thats how you know you are on the right track people- we are starting to be hated again

I believe many schools have and still do pass that garbage out. Artificial noisemaker no matter how ****** it might be. Hell a child could choke on one if it were deflated!

While we're at it, isn't having a larger stadium capacity an "unfair home field advantage"? Obviously having more people will mean that it will be louder there. Time to redistribute some wealth so we can make our stadium bigger.

The SEC rule is absolutely open-ended and has ZERO authority. Since there is no limit (ie..decibel level) set on an "artificial noisemaker" there is no enforceability. By definition, a pom-pom can be an artificial noisemaker. Granted that a cowbell probably is around the 95-105 decibel range while a pom-pom is around 35-50 decibels, there is no "artificial noisemakers above (insert number here) decibels" rule to the best of my knowledge. Therefore, the next time an Ole Miss person complains about a cowbell, tell them to leave their pom-pom at home because those plastic strands hitting each other also creates artificial noise. Maybe I should make a youtube video proving that those dumb pom-poms do in fact create artificial noise!

until you see a police force owned by the SEC that has the authority to go into our stadium and take cowbells away from the fans you will NEVER be able to enforce this rule. The NCAA took the meat out of the rule on the field and my understanding is that in order to impose a new fine (a la the coaches talking about the refs) it has to be voted in unanimously. So, you can't fine us, you can't flag us, and you have no right to enter our stadium and enforce rules. This leaves you leaning on the people WE pay to enforce a rule WE don't want.

Back in the LT era he was willing to lean on his employers because... well, I guess because he was just that cocky. Byrne is not going to send police into the stands to confiscate the cowbells unless absolutely forced to do so and I don't see how the SEC can pull that off. The funniest thing about this whole issue is that when people quit bitching about them, we stopped bringing them. I mean the students always do, but in the alumni section they were pretty rare. Every time someone bitches it just reminds me to bring my bell.

The one played in Atlanta, Rebs.

Anyway, the SEC posted people outside the dome with loud speakers to anounce that no cowbells were allowed inside. I got to the entrance. Being a smartass, I asked the lady if she was going to check for cowbells. As I could clearly see, they were not. She told me it was not her job and she did not care if I had a cowbell. I did not see anyone enforcing the rule in the dome during the game either. However, there were not many cowbells there....at least in my section. So, the SEC's tactic worked. Scare the fans into not bringing them. Really, that is all they can do.

...this stupid ******** reminds me of the thread yesterday where somebody asked where Egg Bowl '09 stands with the rebel fanbase.

To the idiot, they all claimed Egg Bowl '09 does not matter, because they are Cotton Bowl bound.

As others have pointed out, this is the beginning of Jackie Sherrill 2.0.

1/2 of their nutbag fanbase sincerely believes Mullen purposely tanked the Bama & UPig games so as to lull UMiss into a sense of false security.

If 50% of your fanbase is this ridiculous, it stands to reason they are going to begin working towards ruining Mullen.

a move to the WAC, MAC, SWAC, CUSA or other such **** conference due to their pussies being too large for the SEC.
