to get us to Atlanta........

(1) Dan is just getting started as a head coach and Sherrill had already been there and done that many times. With winning will come recruiting success. But if some of you think that Dan is just letting 4 & 5 * players walk by take a look at who he is recruiting against in the West alone. Not saying he cannot get those players but right now they are not going to run over each other to come to State.

(2)For a school that's been to TWO bowl games in 10 years we have some truly delusional fans. I am as sick of losing as anybody but LSU or Bama we ain't.....at least for now. More success will come but it won't all come this year.

(3) For all the bitching and moaning about play calling, timeouts, and mailing it in, we still went toe to toe with LSU through 3 1/2 quarters. Some of you go off like Old Faithful because every call or play is not perfect. Well, here's a news flash. SOMETIMES THE OTHER TEAM HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR PLANS! After all, they are there to play the game at least most of the time. And, losing 3/5 of your OL in the last two games has something to do with what you call and what you cannot. Our OL depth is still shakey at best. Help is coming but is at least another year off.

(4) We lost 4 really good defensive players and still held LSU to ONE offensive touchdown. Oregon did not do that. State did. Again, help is coming. Some of it in this year's recruiting class. But you are not going to see winning SEC west teams playing with 6-8 freshmen in the OL and defensive positions. Too much inexperience. And all too often you get experience by playing and getting your arse handed to you.

(5) Aww hell.....why am I wasting my time telling this to our idiots who could not coach a Pop Warner team of all girls?

The difference is that Jackie could recruit or at least had better recruiters on staff. If we don't start recruiting better things won't change, you can only coach them up so much.

</div><div>It's arguable that Houston Nutt was one of the top 3 in that group, but one of the bottom 3 for the SECW in the last 5 years.</div>

The SECW was just an after thought back then. Florida and UT dominated the SEC back then.

if that`s what you want to do butsaying Jackie coached against lesser SEC coaches is a 17ing reach.Jackie Sherrill`s career spanded decades and he coached against some ofthe all time greats nationally. He coached past the time he still had a fire in his belly and that was an unfortunate ending to his career but what a career it was.Trying to lessen Jackie`s accomplishments to puff Dan is some weak ****.

good recruiting years..he just couldn't coach worth a **** and was a poor communicator and his assistants left him in a hurry because of it. Jackie inherited those recruits. Dan did not have that advantage for the most part.

How about records against common opponents.

Jackie vs Nutt 1-5
Jackie vs Saban 0-4

I'm not trying to lessen anything Jackie did. He did great things for the University, and fielded some of the best teams we've seen at State. Dan is doing great things for the university too. To compare the SECW at any point in the 90's to what it takes now to win it is not a good comparison.

Another comparison.

Jackie's first 3 years.
10-12-1 vs the SEC
Mullen up to this point.
6-11 vs the SEC

We have UGA, USC, Bama, KY, AR, and UM left. Mullen hasthe potential to match Jackie's SEC wins in his first 3 years. I'm not saying we'll win 4 more SEC games, but I do believe we have a really good chance to.

Edit to add, for the Croom lovers that have started popping up recently. I honestly can't believe I just typed that and wasting my time on this.

Croom first 3 years
4-20 vs the SEC

I read a post today that at least Croom won big games. If the record vs the SEC doesn't get you off his bandwagon here's his big win list.
2004 beat Florida, yeah, but he lost to Maine and said he knew going into Maine we would lose to them. @%%*#!# MAINE!!! Big win negated.
2005 beat Ole Miss, an Ed Orgeron coached team.
2006 beat Bama, Mike Shula coached team. Lost to "Thanks for the check" Tulane.
2007 Ellis Johnson beat Auburn, Bama, Ole Miss, and Wes Carrollwon the Liberty Bowl.
2008 Beat Arkansas, lost to LA F'N Tech.

Please no one praise Croom again for his "big" wins or recruiting prowess. Stop smoking the wacky weed because short term memory loss is not a good thing.
