Then why didn't go out and hire someone like Koenning? For a coach to be successful he has to have good assistants. Its funny how some of you guys always blame someone other than Dana for wvu deficiencies.
Dana didn't care about defense. Didn't even care to know most of their names. He let the AD pick one out for him. Dana was all about doing just enough to not get fired.
I would like to see this entire coaching staff with last years roster. From what I've seen out of this staff, we wouldve had better results. We are a more physical team under Brown, and his staff from top to bottom looks good. They have doing more with less than Dana ever had to deal with. And Koenning is a legit DC. He puts Deforester and even Gibby to shame.
Watching Troy I was high on their DL coach and DC.
I did say I though both had to come with Neal Brown.

Dana told people in Houston that he never had the luxury of hiring who he wanted.
Don't know if this was true or what but Dana claimed he had to use the scrap bin to hire assistant coaches.
After the DeForest mess(remember he hired a CB's coach that never played high school football) Ollie had his say on who was hired. Was he ask to keep the DC from last year?
IMO Dana never cared about Defense period. I think the defensive coordinator is irrelevant when the head coach is so centered on offense. In 8 or 9 seasons and 7 or 8 in the Big XII he never made defense the top priority. I don’t know of too many spread air raid offenses that have a great defense. At Houston his defense last season was like a Joe Deforrest D in year one of the Big XII (see meltdown @ Tulane).
