The event tomorrow in Gulfport and the one here tonight in Gautier are probably the biggest events planned although there are several along the coast through the weekend…

Really? I have heard repeatedly that it only affected New Orleans.
Realizing that was 20 years ago makes me feel 17'n old.
No ****. Every special on tv/streaming is about new Orleans. Makes me sick.
Having lived through it don't care to celebrate it ,,,would rather just forget it.
I watched the whole 6 part series on Katrina that came out not too long ago. Not one time was the word Mississippi even mentioned outside the river of course.

It’s about $ and politics. There’s a reason the federal government is still pumping in billions in the name of flood risk reduction to protect cows feet in LA since Katrina.
Even though I was up in Northern Mississippi, I can attest that it also affected that state.
I was in NY City, Manhattan, (my only trip), One of our group was keeping up.

I have a CD floating around with a ton of ground zero pics from my Fire Chief BIL who was in the French Quarter as it went down. He called us and told us the levees were breached before it hit the news. His crew was the first on scene at the 17 street canal. He went to check on his house in Lakeview and saw it first hand.
He had a guy that did nothing but take pictures as he wanted to document everything he could.

I am not taking any position on the racial leanings. I will say the only reason I watched was hoping Mississippi might get some attention. The only reason for that is that I am originally from South Mississippi and lived through it. It was a 17ing monster when it reached us 90 miles off the coast. I just thought my much-loved Mississippi folks might be mentioned.
