Unless you guys are planning on winning tomorrow too. At least the dogs definitely made tomorrow interesting.

Which is what they are looking at going into tom. We'll see.

I doubt we win tom, if arky can avoid the costly errors they could win. If they continue to play terrible their season will continue to go down the *******.

for the first time in 32 years in any major sport. They don't have tiebreakers in baseball like they do in football. Having said that, we will probably lose by 12 tomorrow.

ETA: Yeah, I went ahead and posted that in the top of the 8th. Now I've screwed the whole thing.

I'm not going to apologize for going 20-10 and claiming a title(if that happens) but you know what I meant. We could both be 20-10 and be "tied" with a team that took 2 out of 3 from us. The easy solution is for us to win tomorrow and our good friends in Starkville to pull one more out.

The other thing to consider is that there is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow in Starkville last I checked. If we finish off tonight, and you don't play tomorrow, we win the SEC title without a tie.

And yes, if we win tonight and tomorrow, we'll be guaranteed a share of the overall SEC title even if LSU wins, and it'll be the first time in 32 years, even though we'd lose the tiebreaker for seeding purposes.

The SEC offically recognized both LSU and UM as Western Division champions in football for 2003. The tiebreaker only comes into play to determine which of the two champions plays in the SEC title game in Atlanta.

on playing the third game on Sunday? I don't know, I am asking...

I think I heard that they won't allow playing any games on Sunday this weekend. They essentially treat Saturday like Sunday due to the SEC tourney being next week. Someone else can correct me on that if I'm wrong. I don't have anything official on that, just what I heard.

crown in football in '03. Football is 8 league games, whoever wins wins. There are no ties. Baseball and basketball are completely different because everone plays so many games, and against so many interleague opponents. Bottom line -- in football we got a fake western division crown in '03. If we win tomorrow we get some actual hardware for the first time in 3 decades. aGAIN, we'll lose, but the point's the same.

For what it's worth, I don't think y'all win tom. But that's because I don't bank on sweeps. I hope for them but never expect them.

I also don't think we win tom. Combine that with I have more faith in the BCS than I do a weather man...

When the season was over, you finished 7-1 and nobody in the SEC West finished any better.</p>

I think what Jack is saying is that there is a big difference in winning the tiebreaker in football and in baseball. Winning the tiebreaker in baseball only determines seeding. In football, it determines whether you get a shot at winning the actual SEC title.

In 2003, in football we were Western Division champs and got a trophy for it, but we didn't get a chance to play for the overall title, so that tiebreaker means a whole lot more.

I agree that it is tainted since we weren't in Atlanta but I don't get your point about actual hardware. The SEC sent us a trophy in 2003 and as long as we win tomorrow they will send us another one, regardless of what LSU does.

thats why that "SEC West title" ******** with Stansbury gets so damn old- it really dont mean ****- all it does is set the Tourney. Hell, you can win the West and still not make the NCAA Tourney. My 1st sig says all you need to know bout Stansbury's "SEC West titles"

Football is different- West title in football means you are playing for bigger stakes and a BCS bid...winning the West is important in football- basketball and baseball- its a preliminary

They have alot of good , talented players and they have a deep pitching staff. If they host a regional this yr instead of being sent to Aizona State, they have a good chance to make it to Omaha. If they win the whole thing, does that negate all of our tradition? It will to their fans.

You are who you are. You've earned the respect. Nothing is going to change that by a one year run. If it happens.

You would think out of all the yrs Polk had success here, we would have won 2 or 3 National Titles. When Gene Morgan was drilled by that Line drive against Texas in 1985 , that killed our chances of ever winning the thing and then to fight back through the losers brackett, to have our best closer Bobby Thigpen on the mound in the bottom of the 9th with two outs facing Gregg Elena from Miami --a player that was not known for power--hit a Grand Slam to put us out. I might be wrong about this game though, it's been a long time. Good luck TC, I do hope as a MISSISSIPPIAN, that ya'll do go a long way.

I have always had the utmost respect for your baseball program. It was always first class. If we can get Bittle back, I like our chances. If not, even with a deep staff, it's going to be tough.

You should do well in the postseason with or without Bittle. But I think you need him to have a good shot at the CWS. If he does come back, and is 100%, I think you could do some serious damage in the CWS. Your offense isn't all that great, but good starting pitching, a good middle relief guy and a good closer can take you a long way.

I remember, when Polk made the pitching change, wishing he'd stayed in the dugout. (Wasn't it Brantley that Polk pulled?)

Does anyone know what the record for homers in a season is at State? He has 19 this year, he can really hit the ball. I see him in the MLB.
