"It's Sonny Jurgensen!"

A few minutes ago I was flipping channels and ran across highlights of the Steelers - Bengals game. The Steelers were wearing throwback jerseys.

I wasn't paying much attention, as I'm not a fan of either team. Then they showed footage of Roethlisberger trying to scramble. My first thought? "Hey! It's Sonny Jurgensen!" Ben was the spitting image of the Beer Keg on Legs trying to get out of the pocket.

Ben threw an INT. Sonny, having a brain, would have hurled it into the stands.

My conclusion; I'm older than dirt.

Sonny had one of the strongest throwing arms. It is said he once threw a 40 yard pass right on the money while on his knees. I'm older than dirt too

Sonny could fling the ball, no doubt about it. And he was a bear to take down in the pocket. As long as his throwing arm was free, there was good chance he would complete the pass.

In those days NFL teams would cut any player that couldn't run a sub-5.4 40, kickers included. Rumor was Sonny was never timed after he got the starting job.

I saw the replay again this morning. Big Ben has to be one of Sonny's kids with that game breaking speed he showed rolling out of the pocket. Ben has the mighty Jergensen gut to boot.

Little know fact about Sonny is that he was an outstanding DB for Duke before starting at QB.

I hated my Eagles for trading him to the 'skins for that bum Norm Snead. That has to be one of the all time dumb NFL trades. I think Sonny had won or set a NFL passing record the season befor the trade.
