...and Riley still can't manage a ******* clock.

It was sure nice to see NU ending their last 2 drives by throwing on 3rd down up 2 scores, trying to chew clock!

But no worries, Oregon scored 77 tonight, so I'm sure Diaco can keep them under 70!

It feels like year 1 because Riley can't manage games in the 4th Q and our D blows because someone forgot to tell mike to hire the best assistant coaches, not just bring his friends from OSU. Year 3, but a reboot on D.

Nebraska won, yes. Look A LOT better against Oregon? I doubt it.
We wil see.
My hope is that Diaco learned some things about his players and his scheme.
He would have to be different than our offensive coaches in that regard, as they obviously dont learn from their mistakes.

I just wonder how much coaching Riley has left in him. His body language late in the 4th quarter was not good. He'll be 65 years old soon. Would not be surprised if he retires after next year if we can't get over the hump.

Am I allowed to say he didnt look the best physically either..like he normally has in the past?
I womder if its wearing on him.
I also wonder how much input he has in play calling, both ways.

Why would Riley retire before his contract is up? He came to NU to get PAID.

One thing that might shine some hope for the defense next week, and Glenn Mason noted this, is that Nebraska's defense, other than switching from 3 to 4 and back on the d-line, maintained the same look everywhere else for most of the time the D was on the field. What I saw was about as a vanilla a defense as you'd want to see against that offense. So, maybe he played possum a bit and will mix things up more against the Ducks next week. But I would say the overall talent Oregon vs. Arky State on offense, edge to the Ducks. Plus home field advantage.

Perhaps we did play possum.
But our possum could have been better, and still been possum. Not that hard to play tighter, have your OLBs do something, and bring at least a fourth guy every time on third.

Completely agree. When he took the field it looked like a different guy.

The way he kept bending over and holding his knees like he was physically ill...maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seemed strange to me. Not the type of confident body language I'd like to see out of a leader in that situation.

He is an honest man. If he feels sick and shows it... I trust it. He is who he is

I have said it before. 75 percent of the people are educated on football ( on this board ). Having coached football, I have some insight ( not a lot ) about the odds and ends of the football game. Before you say, " you should coach " or whatever you want to express, it does not take a genius to understand that this will not work out and this man is not the person to bring us back. Come on, you know it and I know it. The smart ones knew it when he was hired. It is what it is. Langsdorf? Come on. really? You know how this will play out.

Haven't you heard....this season is a "reboot". The last two didn't count because he didn't have his players and his system. This is Riley's REAL 1st year! Wait until he turns 70, then we can finally stop making excuses for him and start to see that this program is going to end up no better than was under Bo or Callahan. Give it time, recruiting is going great and we got a million dollar D-coordinator! Laughing

I disagree with your statement he (Mason) stated in the 3rd quarter that these (ark st) are the same pass plays that worked in the first half . They are now being contested and covered .

Ark st changed up a lot in the 4th qtr and we did not fully adjust to this

Nebraska began applying a lot of pressure and blitzs in the 4th qtr

No possum .

Surprised no one mentioned how he treated his head set. Riley has passion , he was very upset with the show he was seeing , on both sides of the ball

He needs to sit DL down and tell him to close out games in situations like that. No more trying to outsmart everyone with brilliantly drawn up bullsh*t. Take the win. Be humble.

I could live with langsdorf and his play calling but seriously is it too much to ask for this program to play good defense. Callahan couldn't do it, Pelini couldn't do it consistently, Banker was a bad DC and now this start by Diaco is very very disappointing. This program is 4th in the west ongoing until we get that fixed forget confer titles that will not happen until someone fixes this defense

Charlie McBride was almost run out of town before things turned around. Most of that turn around was he got better Jimmys and Joes not just X's & O's. Lots of people didn't pay attention until he had success.

Mason said it, go back and re watch it. Arky State didn't change up much of anything in the 4th quarter, they kept running what they did for most of the game. And the pressure and blitzes in the 4th qtr by Nebraska sure didn't help, Arky was moving the ball at will on them.
