supporting Brands because Terry is a great man, but it's probably time
“WhAt MaKeS yOu ThInK DaViD tAyLoR iS gOiNg To Be A gOoD cOaCh?”It’s long overdue. Too late as a matter of fact. Writing has been on the wall for all to see and now the choices are to stick with the current coaches and completely drive the program into the ground or act in desperation because leadership didn’t plan ahead. Is what it is.
Everyone needs to get past the personal aspect of decisions like these. I think both Tom and Terry are good men and have done a lot of great things for the university. But the results are simply unacceptable and there's zero reason to expect a significant turnaround.supporting Brands because Terry is a great man, but it's probably time

It's time.
David Taylor wouldn't have come to Iowa for all the money.“WhAt MaKeS yOu ThInK DaViD tAyLoR iS gOiNg To Be A gOoD cOaCh?”
David Taylor is on record (prior to taking the Okie State job) that he would love to coach in Iowa City, but you're right lol.David Taylor wouldn't have come to Iowa for all the money.
He has long since been more than on board with waiting for Iowa to fade from the wrestling consciousness.
People can't let go of Iowas dynasty under Gable.
They would honestly rather Penn State win every title for the next 30 years and break Oklahoma State's record, than see anyone else challenge them, let alone Iowa.
Taylor wants to bring back Oklahoma State because he has more respect for that program and always has.
Our fans need to understand this and deal with it............
Who gives a f*** about David Taylor. This whole concept does not exist in this universe and never will.David Taylor wouldn't have come to Iowa for all the money.

Coaches are notorious liars.David Taylor is on record (prior to taking the Okie State job) that he would love to coach in Iowa City, but you're right lol.
Not just staff. Brands need to go too. Otherwise it'll be the same old ****I think Beth does it like this:
“Tom, changes need to be made. Look at your staff and make them. If you don’t I will, and the change will be the head coach. “
We’ll see.
Yup, Brands has had plenty of time to change up the staff. It's time to clean house and move on from this ****.Not just staff. Brands need to go too. Otherwise it'll be the same old ****

I don’t necessarily disagree, but who is the answer at the top? Kirk dealt with that in football. He took it and moved forward. Can Tom? If so, maybe he shows a willingness to do the things that need to happen to win more consistently. What an awful point and post.Maybe just sit this one out.
He’s had years and the full authority to upgrade the staff and has refused to do so. And set bridges on fire with guys who would have been interested in coaching here.
He’s had that chance already. Time to move on.

Taylor would have jumped at the chance to coach at Iowa if he was given the chance. ImoWhat an awful point and post.Maybe just sit this one out.

Not going to happen. The mindset of people like Tom Brands, awesome when it works and horrible when it doesn’t, is “I can win, no defeat”. It is that attitude that actually makes them great. As others have said, Tom had his chance for that a missed it.
The real conversation should go like this
Tom:
“Beth, I love this university and program but it’s clear to me that it’s time for the next chapter. I would like to help ensure this is a smooth transition so let me know if there is anything I can do.”

if he doesn’t, well, bye.
Spot on. Should be thinking self preservation of legacy at this point. As others have said, Tom had his chance for that a missed it.

Oh yeah, well your point and post were awful. See, I can do that too......What an awful point and post.
Nah, I'm pretty cozy here. I think I'll stay a while and see how things play out............Maybe just sit this one out.

Yep, sometimes the traits that make us excel in one part or time of life are also the ones that hold us back in another.....Not going to happen. The mindset of people like Tom Brands, awesome when it works and horrible when it doesn’t, is “I can win, no defeat”. It is that attitude that actually makes them great.
If an AD must tell a HC he must make staff changes, that AD has the wrong HC.I think Beth does it like this:
“Tom, changes need to be made. Look at your staff and make them. If you don’t I will, and the change will be the head coach. “
We’ll see.
Brands brothers still relatively young (mid-50s) , what would they do if they just walk away? In other words, they aren’t going to walk away on their own. It's over. The sport has passed them by. I wish they'd recognize that bowing out and leaving is truly what would be best for the Iowa program but I don't see that happening. BG needs to make a move.
we have one more year to enjoy their contributions.Yes, it’s time. And I’d rather forfeit Bailey and Williams weights for the rest of the year than watch those two puds wrestle.
Probably not.Brands brothers still relatively young (mid-50s) , what would they do if they just walk away? In other words, they aren’t going to walk away on their own.
I would be very surprised if they all show up.hanging on to what exactly? the 27 and 28 classes that are arguably equal to the classes that PSU gets every year and OSU is now getting every year?
Depends on the time and situation. Was anyone saying this in 2010 or 2020? But yes, I absolutely agree.Yep, sometimes the traits that make us excel in one part or time of life are also the ones that hold us back in another.....
So, Kirk Ferentz is the wrong HC?If an AD must tell a HC he must make staff changes, that AD has the wrong HC.
I don’t think it’s ego so much as tunnel vision. As other posters have said, their drive to compete makes them think if they just work harder, the results will come, when they need to be working smarterProbably not.
The ego is a hell of a drug. Many examples of once greats losing their edge over time, making it about them, and not making decisions that are best for the organization. This story continues to play out in real time and everyone knows the ending.
Umm, hunt, fish, chop wood, take vacations, hang out in the Cesspool.....Brands brothers still relatively young (mid-50s) , what would they do if they just walk away? In other words, they aren’t going to walk away on their own.
