It’s long overdue. Too late as a matter of fact. Writing has been on the wall for all to see and now the choices are to stick with the current coaches and completely drive the program into the ground or act in desperation because leadership didn’t plan ahead. Is what it is.

supporting Brands because Terry is a great man, but it's probably time
Everyone needs to get past the personal aspect of decisions like these. I think both Tom and Terry are good men and have done a lot of great things for the university. But the results are simply unacceptable and there's zero reason to expect a significant turnaround.
It's time.

David Taylor wouldn't have come to Iowa for all the money.

He has long since been more than on board with waiting for Iowa to fade from the wrestling consciousness.

People can't let go of Iowas dynasty under Gable.

They would honestly rather Penn State win every title for the next 30 years and break Oklahoma State's record, than see anyone else challenge them, let alone Iowa.

Taylor wants to bring back Oklahoma State because he has more respect for that program and always has.

Our fans need to understand this and deal with it............

David Taylor is on record (prior to taking the Okie State job) that he would love to coach in Iowa City, but you're right lol.

Edit: Can't find the podcast as it's been a few year, but I believe it was with Askren, who said he wanted DT to take over the Iowa program.

Who gives a f*** about David Taylor. This whole concept does not exist in this universe and never will.

I've been supporting the Brands for years up until this year.

There's no excusing the lack of recruiting, the passive wrestling, the lack of offense, the lack of conditioning, our guys gassing before the other team, our guys having zero scrambling abilities, the horrible ROI on expensive portal guys...

It's over. The sport has passed them by. I wish they'd recognize that bowing out and leaving is truly what would be best for the Iowa program but I don't see that happening. BG needs to make a move.

I think Beth does it like this:

“Tom, changes need to be made. Look at your staff and make them. If you don’t I will, and the change will be the head coach. “

We’ll see.

It's about 2 years top late for that....

BURN IT.

There are a LOT of coaches that would jump at the chance to coach Iowa. Is there anyone left that thinks that a new coaching staff will do any worse than this? They may not get us another Natty, but I Brands isn't not going to get us back on top of the podium

WTF are we doing here?

What an awful point and post. 😂 Maybe just sit this one out.

He’s had years and the full authority to upgrade the staff and has refused to do so. And set bridges on fire with guys who would have been interested in coaching here.

He’s had that chance already. Time to move on.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but who is the answer at the top? Kirk dealt with that in football. He took it and moved forward. Can Tom? If so, maybe he shows a willingness to do the things that need to happen to win more consistently.

if he doesn’t, well, bye.

As others have said, Tom had his chance for that a missed it.

The real conversation should go like this

Tom:
“Beth, I love this university and program but it’s clear to me that it’s time for the next chapter. I would like to help ensure this is a smooth transition so let me know if there is anything I can do.”

Taylor would have jumped at the chance to coach at Iowa if he was given the chance. Imo

Not going to happen. The mindset of people like Tom Brands, awesome when it works and horrible when it doesn’t, is “I can win, no defeat”. It is that attitude that actually makes them great.

Spot on. Should be thinking self preservation of legacy at this point.

hanging on to what exactly? the 27 and 28 classes that are arguably equal to the classes that PSU gets every year and OSU is now getting every year?

Brands brothers still relatively young (mid-50s) , what would they do if they just walk away? In other words, they aren’t going to walk away on their own.

Probably not.

The ego is a hell of a drug. Many examples of once greats losing their edge over time, making it about them, and not making decisions that are best for the organization. This story continues to play out in real time and everyone knows the ending.

I don’t think it’s ego so much as tunnel vision. As other posters have said, their drive to compete makes them think if they just work harder, the results will come, when they need to be working smarter
