I've been saying Fla didnt have the WR's to be a passing team...

and they are showing it so far today. I know it's early, but they don't look good at all. And definitely not a top SEC team with the skill people they have at WR. I seriously think we might be better than them at WR by season's end.

And it also shows how hard the offense is to run without a running threat at the QB position

Haughton, La. (1-0) 24, Airline, La. 7 - Haughton qb Dak Prescott completed 12-of-17 for 217 yards and rushed 19 times for 125 yards and one touchdown.

Pretty impressive stat line.

the offense is so much easier to defend when the QB is not a running threat

Fla won't be awful- but it will be a struggle for them this year offensively

but I think any offense is easier to defend if the QB is not a running threat.

That said, it's only the first game, and first half no less. I want to judge Florida based on how they do with some more games. As you know, it's not unusual for teams to have some hiccups in the first half of the first game. Especially in college without a preseason or a jamboree season.

for Florida- but I just kept wondering all offseason why nobody mentioned the fact that they lost all these WR's the last 2 years, and now suddenly with Brantley they want to sling it around and all will be fine. They simply dont have the WR's to have some bigtime Spread passing game vs SEC defenses. I worry about our WR's- and think we are as good as they are

"but I think any offense is easier to defend if the QB is not a running threat"

So Randall Cunningham was harder to defend than Joe Montana? I disagree. Your statement is too generalized.

It's a Spread offense runner thats more effective than your normal running QB from a conventional offense. The Spread's whole philosophy of spreading the field and then having the QB as a running threat is what makes it so tough. It creates running lanes that normally wouldnt be there. I just think it's tougher to have a Russell in our offense. But Mullen and Hud are smarter than I am, and hopefully they can find a way to make him very effective.

takes pressure off their baby QB...his test comes the next 3 weeks when they won't be able to run free and he has to make some throws to keep the chains moving

I don't think that is what he meant. Ifyou took Joe Montana and all of a sudden gave him the ability to run like Randall Cunningham or Michael Vick, withoutcompromising his passing ability, then the offense just got tougher to defend.

still thinks "Dan is Dan" and Florida's offense now just sucks.

Seriously, throwing mechanics (arm delivery) are overrated.... footwork is just as important.

I'm saying a Chris Relf led Spread is tougher to defend than a John Brantley run Spread because of the pressure the running QB puts on the defense, plus the advantage Relf gives the offense as a being a viable running option.

Brantley is either going to hand it off, or sling it. Relf is going to run it, hand it off, or sling it. It just puts more pressure on a defense.

Brantley in the shotgun with no backs? He is 100% throwing it and you can scheme blitzes for that to get people running free at him. Relf? Could be a pass, QB draw, roll right or left on a run-pass option....and that's just one example

Plus, Relf being able to run allows you to put one more WR out wide, as opposed to keeping 2 backs in the backfield- one as a blocker. You constantly keep the defense spread out with Relf- yet still have the 2 backs in the backfield advantage

wonder how ill-prepared you can be for your first game.
Center can't even get the ball to the QB.
