Absolutely 100% agreed. If the announcer had not said what it was that they were doing I would have never recognized it. It looked like a bunch of kindergarten kids doing the Hokey Pokey. Why not use that energy (what little there is) to do some actual band-type movement. I'm BEYOND sick of seeing the band walk onto the field, stand still to play a song (maybe shuffling their feet to simulate movement), move to a slightly different formation (usually just the twirlers and pom squad running to the opposite side of the field), stand still to play another song, then march off. I've been given the excuse "they are a military style band". This is NOT West Point, Annapolis, or any other military academy; the time of the huge military emphasis at MSU has long passed. Let's see the band actually DO something and be entertaining! Many fans are former high school band members and did more real band stuff in one year of high school than our poor FMB gets to do in a college career. Yes, the main reason fans enter the stadium is to see the football team play. But that doesn't mean that the band cannot and should not bring an exciting, entertaining program for the fans. As it is now many, if not most, fans are cringing every time the band takes the field. Keep the boring pre-game show if you must, but let's leave the DPR for the football players and let the band focus on a really good half-time program. One last thing about the band: Is there NEVER any news that needs editing on game days? Why is the Starkville Daily News Excuse editor ALWAYS on the sidelines "helping" direct the band? And about RocketCityDawg, at least he's found a new word (albeit incorrectly used) and is giving "paradigm" a rest.
