It really brought home what's important and who's really in charge.

I have to admit I got a little choked up thinking about those kids.

I think the State Pen folks are doing some serious PR backtracking after students rioted over Joe Paterno getting fired. Bo Bounds theorized that parents of the State Pen parents called their kids up Thursday morning and told them how bad they looked and they better knock it out. <div>
</div><div>Today's prayer is nice, but I still think Penn St. needs to shut down its program for the next couple of years. There's something fundamentally wrong up in Happy Valley, and until they address it the disease will still fester. For example, what halfway decent recruit would really want to clean off after practice in the "Sandusky Showers"? Work out in the weightroom? </div><div>
</div><div>They need to clean out any associated with Penn State for the past 5 years or so (the assistants average 20 years on the coaching staff), start all over in 2013 (or 2018, or whatever). Do what Germany did after World War II....clear out any vestiges of the old regime, dedicate itself to always doing the right thing, and never allow an environment where a monster could thrive.</div>

Gee, only a week transpired until they gave a rats *** about the victims.

Be clear:

The Board of Trustees on Wednesday said that "Penn State football is an $80 million a year brand that we must protect". They fired the pres and paterno. They tossed in a little concern for the victims. right.

The students rioted violently not because of what happened to several children, but because their coach was canned.

McQueary watched a little boy get pounded in the *** by a 60 year old man, yet he still had a job Thursday.

After the rest of the country was beyond livid at the above, then they decide to have a prayer vigil for the victims. McQueary is put on leave.

Character is defined as what you do when nobody is watching. If this is how they behave when people are watching, I cannot fathom what other horrors we have not heard about yet.

This doesn't fit perfectly to this thread, but this is what I posted on 24/7 earlier today (typos and all, I'm to lazy to clean it up) about the whole situation. The center of the field prayer was chilling inside of the stadium. A nice moment.<div>

I think that what happened was horrible, and I agree that JoePa shouldn't be the coach. however, I have the following problems with the entire situation:</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">1.) The school handled this horribly. The media was allowed to report and speculate for 4 days after the initial perjury charge with no public comment other than the President and his ill conceived support of the accused claim. They fired JoePa by a phone call. Not even a call they initiated. he was delivered a letter with a number and a time to call.</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">2.) The "riots" consisted of about 2,000 people. Of those less than 200 were there to anything but be on TV or observe the events. There were more people at the candle light vigil last night. CNN treated it like a Libyan revolt. Not the case. At all. People are now associating all students with a "vocal minority."</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">3.) I have argued with JoePa apologists here for days, and finally got the one argument that made sense the most. People don't condone his actions. Almost everyone is disgusted by it. But this man has been the heart of Penn State for half a century. Fans consider him as a second father. They truly see him as family. If your own father was in this situation, sure you would be ashamed of the actions, and you would know it was wrong. However, you would want your father treated fairly, and with a little dignity. I don't agree with this completely, but it at least gives you a sense of the way they feel. He is as much a part of these people as their own father.</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">4.) Why does Tim Curley still have a job?</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">Also, the group prayer at the center of the field today was one of the coolest things I have seen at a football game. The university is trying to repair the damage done by a few. This is a prideful school, and they wan't to show the world that they are much much more than the perception given off at this moment.</p><p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 1.1em; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; line-height: 17px; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; ">*** If you don't want to read all of that the short form is this: Penn State is finally moving in the right direction, but to this point have really gone about all of this very poorly.</p></span></div>
