Iverson interested in Grizzlies?

Several NBA sources have confirmed to me that controversial and wildly popular guard Allen Iverson - through representatives - has made the Grizzlies aware that he would like to play in Memphis.

The veteran, prolific scorer is a free agent for the first time in his professional career. While no deal is imminent and conversations have been only cursory, Griz brass are said to be internally weighing the pros and cons of possibly adding Iverson to the team's youth movement.</p>

I'd love to see this happen. But I'm sure there is little chance as Wallace is going to tell him he plays from the bench. I say sign him and start him. I know I'll get grilled by all the Griz fans convinced Iverson/Randolph isn't "the right way". 17 that. Memphis needs people in the seats and something to be excited about. Iverson can easily accomplish that. I'll easily go to twice as many games as I normally would with Iverson at the helm.

What can it possibly harm? Sign a numerous time all-star and former league MVP for somewhere around the mid-level exception, the Grizz badly need another PG, and people are saying Memphis doesn't need him? Not to mention the fact that sources are saying he actually WANTS to come here. How can that be a bad thing?

The Grizz should sign him to a somewhere around a 2 yr, $12M contract and if Conley gets pissed, tell him that when he starts putting up league MVP numbers, he can have his starting job back. Hell, trade him for all I care.

A starting lineup of Iverson, Mayo, Gay, Randolph, and Gasol immediately makes the Grizz a possible playoff team.

Don't get me wrong, AI has always been one of my favorite players, but he is so far from what the Grizz need right now. You take old MVPs on the backside of their career to add experienced minutes and help your team go one step closer to a championship. The Grizz are like a billion light years from even reaching the playoffs. Why in the hell would you bring a guy in who will take mintues away from your developing point guard, take shots away from your developing point machine, and not do jack **** to help them improve their games.

I am sure Tunica Casinos are praying this comes to fruition. I was there last MLK weekend while the Pistons were in Memphis, and saw AI and his entourage blowing away tens of thousands of dollars on the three card poker table.

It will definitely be interesting to see if Wallace and Heisley jump at this, especially considering that they are about halfway into their "3 year plan" to rebuild the team with young, energetic, hardworking choir boys. I don't see AI fitting that mold.

3 year plan = Crooms' doing things the right way

Have fun in Houston.

Loved Artest's quote:

"I look forward to helping the Lakers defend their championship, and it will be great to finally not get booed in the Staples Center."

Why not? As someone stated earlier, it'll get fans to come out. He hasn't been much of a problem maker in recent years, and he's probably better right now than any other point guard we have on the team... So, I say DO IT

i thought they could basically afford to keep odom or ariza. as lakers fans, are y'all happy that you basically traded ariza for artest? i think artest is certainly more valuable for the next year or two, but ariza is only 24.

looks like the rockets are ready to rebuild.

L.A. may lose a couple of games. I can't freaking believe L.A. loses Ariza and picks up a player as good as Artest. Sure Artest is a nut and I hated his guts about a month and a half ago but he is a competitior and hates to lose. The Lakers needed another guy like that besides Kobe. Screw Shaq and LeBron. The trophy stays in Los Angeles.

He would pack the place out which would make the games fun as hell to go to, andc even though he is on the downside of his career he would still help this team. I think they have a pretty decent starting 5 as it is, add him in the mix and they are going to be an interesting team to watch

...you don't think Artest may be a little too selfish to be on the same team with Kobe?...meaning he'll start to get a little testy when he doesn't think he's getting the ball enough? The talent and defensive intensity, when he's happy, are unquestioned.

I've been told this is not going to happen. Look for the grizz to make a play at andre miller or mike bibby instead
