Malzahn has hired Grimes as his oline coach at Ark State. I know he coached at MSU for several years. Just curious what the opinions are here of him as a coach?

because of the offensive system that was in place.
Understand. Malzahn seems to be putting together a good staff at ASU. He pulled a DC that Arizona State offered as DC.

He has been lots of places. Like most of Croom's assistants, he was a very good hire. With the notable exception of Woody McCorvey, who I thought at the moment of his hire was a poor choice for OC (though a great person and a great recruiter), Croom had excellent assistants. His hire of Ellis Johnson was obviously a coup for MSU - look how he has risen up in people's eyes. Grimes knows all the blocking schemes and will do well.

I was told by GA on Crooms staff that most of the plays Mcorvey called were changed by Croom and Grimes from the pressbox to the huddle. It doesnt matter now, just what he told me

on Crooms staff. I forgot where I heard him spoke (probalby some recruiting party or clan rally) but I do remember being impressed with what I heard.

That year was a big step back, but we had graduated2 starters (C and a guard), lost our LT after spring practice, and Sherrod was injured during most of theAugust practices (even missed a couple of games early).

After losing Mike Brown thatoline never really had a chance. We were depending on young inexperienced players at both tackle positions and center. I'm not sure any coach could have done much with what we had at the time.
