and please don't turn this into a Jack should retire thread. Enjoy it for what it is. A guy who has watched some really ****** football calling an enjoyable win.

but he did sound a little low key compared to previous big wins. Not a knock, just an observation.

No idea which show it was or the host but they were playing ending clips of games around the nation. They played Jack's call of the missed FG and made a comment with the same sentiment.

So sometimes he calls our current players names from players in the 60s, and sometimes he forgets there are 12 members in the SEC now. The guy is a legend and when he calls games he paints a picture with his words. He comes from a time when radio meant something to the public, and he's as good as there has ever been.

and unfortunately that gives me a clear difference between today and back then....

kinda sad to hear the difference... but he should never be fired.... it should be him retiring on his own...

Had to do an audible double-take as reading of the MS Dept Of Pubic Safety ad right after regulation.

The rapping Jack. Who'd have thunk.

Color requires a guy that can see details in the game. This is Jack's weakest point in his old age.

Jack has this job for life. When he dies, they will cancel class... Mark it...

I don't care if he survives to be 107 and calls every game until then. Legendary voice.

Don't know how many more games he has in him, but you'll never hear me talking bad about him. His kind are hard to come by.

I saw him on the coaches show today and gosh that dude looks like a zombie its saddening to see a man that we have heard for so long looking like he is filled with embalming fluid.

Since I was a Freshman 50 years ago.

Sometimes he flubs, but crap....I have lunch every Tuesday with a group of "Old Dawgs" here in Huntsville, some of them around his age. He's sharp for that age.
He's still pretty lucid for a radio guy with that history.
He's 20 or so years older than me, but if I make it that far, I can only hope I'm still as functional as him.

I'm thinking he was born around 1925. Link to story: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=sec/missstate
And, he is a WWII veteran. Thanks tohim for his service.

Watching the Dan Mullen show today, I was wondering: If Jack makes all the games, including the away games, that's tough on an old man.
Tough enough on younger folks. I made every game last year, except for Little Rock....but I was driving, doing my own lodging and such.

I hope Jack's with us as long as he's able and wants to.
I'd not like to be the administrative czar who had to tell him, it's time to hang it up, should it come to that.

Jack has someone drive him back & forth from Tupelo to Starkville. As far as travel effort goes, he's got it as easy as a person can have it.

creep me out too. Many of them are my age.

Kinda hard to believe that some of my best buds are still in their 20's.

He may not have that same energy he once had but, I'll take him over any of the other guys.

Still brings chills to me and maybe even a watery eye as I listen to him and know that he is Mississippi State football to me and many others. I can remember listening to him since I was 10 yrs old which makes that about 40 yrs now.

I for one will miss those calls for games such as this!

I don't care if he gets alzheimers and calls us the Oregon Tech Black Bears....Jack keeps the mic until HE decides to stop...or die. Either way. And I'll fight anyone who thinks differently....
