Jack has really brought Auburn from the very bottom to being a well respected football prgm. I hate to see him resign. I think they will find out how special he was and they were very lucky to have him. I hope they have enough sense to hire someone who can keep it going and not regress.Coach Turner has resigned from Auburn
I think after a year to get himself better he will coach again , I hope close so I can still follow his next rebuilding job, not sure what a good fit would be.As it has been said many times, when one door closes, other door opens. That will be the case for Auburn High School and their football program. Obviously Coach Turner was a very much loved individual in the community of Riner. His presents will be missed. But he leaves a legacy behind that laid the foundation for a well oiled football program. Coaches like Turner come around once or twice in a generation, and those that witnessed his accomplishments will never forget. He has set the table for the next Coach. May the Community of Riner welcome and surround him with your love and support. May God Bless Coach Turner, and most of all, May God Bless the youth who will help mold the next Coach Turner at Auburn.
God Speed My Friend!

They threw the ball some at PC when Jack was there. He had more capable qb's. Although Gabe Spencer was very capable at Auburn Jacks first 2 yrs and they did throw it some.It hurts for Auburn, double whammy in one week for them. I wish their program the best in the future, he did so many things for them.
CougarEd, I have a question for you. When Coach Turner was at Pulaski, did they throw the ball any? I was just curious. I liked how he ran the ball with Auburn, was just curious if he opened the offense up any with the Cougars.
Great call the Fort would be a perfect fit after a year to renergize the motor. It's a shame and I will be the first to admit that I didn't believe it. Turner loves football, eats, sleeps, drinks football. It wouldn't surprise me if he coaches as an assistant somewhere (even as a volunteer) next year and then tries to find another head job in the New River Valley, either way I'm sure he will be at Friday night games somewhere and watching film. I believe his talents are best suited at the 1A level but who knows, he did a fabulous job making Auburn relative. (Will Fort Chiswell be calling next year??
He'll have more to work with at Fort, for sure. That would be a good step for him and for Fort's program.Great call the Fort would be a perfect fit after a year to renergize the motor.
I think dring is right The Fort would be a great spot for Coach Turner if he chooses to coach again, I would like it because it is close and I can watch them. I am sure Fort has a better talent pool than Auburn.A lot of us Fort fans would welcome him with open arms, especially after witnessing the worst season in school history.
You are so right, I watched the program start to take a bad turn last season, This year what a joke,,, I feel so sorry for those kids, definitely a lot better talent than 0and 10 on that football team. I can only hope that the powers that be can get this issue fixed ASAP.IMO. Last year set the stage for this years record.

How would Coach Turner do at Fort if given the opportunity , I would think Fort would have a better talent pool than Auburn, playing about the same schedule .First you may think im a liar but the numbers don't lie would you like to take a look ok 15 years at CCHS 76 wins 23 of those against single a opponents which are 1a and 2a classification now, CCHS was one of the biggest double a schools in the state at the time.
those 76 teams that CCHS beat went on to win 290 games among them. assume they all played 10 games that is 290 wins and 470 losses or 2.62 wins apiece not very good stats. tired of the past fast forward to 2015 you say the parents had it out for him from the get go not true lost me at Radford 4 games in to the season FC had gave up over 2000 yds when asked what he was going to do to change the defense reply not a thing we are 4 and 0. game goes like this you have the ball at the 40 or so you have 3 and 7 with 52 seconds left on the clock why do you call a pass play explain would love to hear your explanation cause I don't have one not to mention the punt on the 28 yard line love those 8 yd net gains on punts, Oh don't forget the next week you go for it twice on the 44 and 48 to give James River all the momentum. That is why hale is no longer at FCHS if not for a good friend as principal he would not have got it in the first place
Are you saying the coach and his style wouldn't be a good fit, I think the kids at fort would embrace a tough, physical style. Thanks for the info. Hope to see coach somewhere in future.I think looking at what is coming up for the fort the wing t would not be a good offence we have wide outs and tailbacks everywhere
I was wondering the same thing. The Fort ..................................... Ah The Fort.......................It's a shame and I will be the first to admit that I didn't believe it. Jack quit for 2 reasons. 1. He has some health concerns he needs to address but he will be fine. 2. I think he is discouraged by not having enough athletes to compete for a championship. Jack is a very competitive man and HATES to lose. When auburn came up against Glenvar, Radford and Giles they just didn't believe they could win i think. Why did Jack quit?

Coach Turner and Hale are complete opposites as coaches, Coach Turner is a rah rah coach, makes everyone believe they are the most important player on the team and without them being great, team will not win. He believes the team is built in the weight room as a unit, if you can't put the time in as a team he will send you home. In 2007/08 he had this type of player at PC and spread the wing t out and won 8 and 12 games, I think he can win with either( the type of player you describe ) he is built on discipline and team first attitude. Both coaches played and coached under hicks but different, not saying anything bad about either.
I think his style is hard to keep up without a break, I have been told he is 100 miles and hour from start to finishWhy did Jack quit?
I don't believe he was forced out was he? I think he just left on his on terms according to the newspapers and principal at the school.
The reason Coach Turner step down IMO was simply to "recharge" and take the time off he probably should have taken in the first place after the health situation he dealt with.. I do agree with you about not having the athletes to compete and take things to the next level but I think Coach Turner knew that when he took the job based on the history of Auburn. The fact (truth) is Auburn has had or has very little over all talent there and that has been the case since Coach Turner took that job. He took what he had to work with (which was not a lot) and made those kids stronger (more physical) and taught them how to compete and tried to get them to believe they could actually win. The compete (consistently) part and how to win a big game is still a work in progress and with the mindset that is still prevalent there it will continue to be IMO. As far as what happened when they played the teams mentioned (Giles, Glenvar, Radford) you are correct with the exception of Radford they never believed they could compete with those teams and honestly were intimidated by them and that probably was very frustrating for Coach Turner because as you said he is very competitive, hates to lose and expects the same from his players.. The new coach at Auburn will certainly have his work cut out for him for sure. Good luck to whom ever that individual may be and good luck to Coach Turner in what ever the future holds for him...Jack quit for 2 reasons. 1. I agree meatchop. And if Auburn hires someone who comes in there and tries to run the spread or something they will regress to what they were. When you don't match up talent wise you have one option and that is to be stronger and tougher. That's what jack did there. But, he never could get them to be as tough as he wanted. The reason Coach Turner step down IMO was simply to "recharge" and take the time off he probably should have taken in the first place after the health situation he dealt with..
