"My fifth thing on the board that we had to do was to frustrate the head coach so much that we make him throw his visor on the ground. That made them all laugh but sure enough, we went out and accomplished all those things."

Simply because he just talks about how he whipped their *** in Starkville. Twice.

And basically calls Spurrier a little *****.

And he is right about 1992. He has as serious ***-kicking team that year. Better than 1998 in my opinion.

I really think we had some national champion caliber teams. Problem was we didn't quite beat the other 2-3 national champion caliber teams in the SEC.

I've always wondered how 1992 would have panned out had Sleepy not gotten hurt. We would have had to win all our conference games from that point on because of the early season loss to a really bad LSU team (go figure), in order to beat Bama in a tiebreaker and get play the Gators again in the SECCG.

that we would have beaten Bama if the officials would have allowed us to, and Ole Miss. We lost to LSU with Sleepy, so it's hard to justify that. We also lost to a terrible South Carolina team, and I we just came out flat. I don't know if Sleepy would have made a difference there or not.

9-3 Ole Miss, 2-9 LSU and 5-6 South Carolina were national championship caliber teams in 1992?

4-7 LSU was national championship caliber in 1994?

4-7 LSU, 5-6 Okla State and 7-5 Kentucky were NC caliber in 1998?

8-4 Arkansas was NC caliber in 1999?

8-4 LSU, 8-4 S Carolina, 6-6 Ark and 7-5 Ole Miss in 2000?

If there was one thing you could count on Sherrill doing, it would be to come completely unprepared to 1-2 games every year to vastly inferior opponents, and we typically lost those games. That 1998 LSU game was an abomination.

That would be a great hypothetical matchup, if there had actually been an SECCG in 1992.

You sure about that, chief? I think Florida, Alabama, and about 83,000 people at Legion Field would beg to differ.

I wiped that season from my memory.

I always want to call that 94. You would think living here I would know better because I hear about the 92 defense and Copeland and Curry about twice a week. In the summer.

that was a GA for MSU in the mid 90's under Sherrill. He said that the week of the LSU game, he would act really, really weird. He didn't expound on that though.

I think the reason for Sherrill's inexplicable apparent lack of preparation sometimes was due to something I heard him say on a radio show one time. He said that realistically, you could only get a team up for 2-3 games a year. I think the games that he really got the team up for were Auburn, Alabama, and Ole Miss most years. (At least he realized that you have to beat your rival despite your ties to the Bear unlike Captain Dubmass)

To me that explains at least in part our inability to beat LSU, Arkansas, and then the stupid losses to people like Northeast Louisiana and Troy.

But this lack of preparation and the personal fouls that we used to repeatedly commit over, and over, and over drove me nuts during the Sherrill era.

....but good heavens, he needs a fact-checker. He's pretty bad about getting dates, games, and sometime opponents swapped up. Pretty much like any other old man in his late 60's, but still.
