I didn’t think Wilkerson was that big a loss, but going from him to this dude has me like…

This kid has a lot of potential. Former top 70 2024 recruit. He apparently played really well last season at the top 100 camp. Looking at pics, he does look like a late bloomer physically. He can shoot, he's long and pretty athletic too. Scouting reports from high school needed him to work on his handles and his frame.

Of course I'd love a Ian Jackson or Dame Sarr, but there's definitely potential. Yes, I'm being optimistic , but looking back at last season, none of us expected Oweh to be as impactful on both ends of the floor.

I guess he has one year of college under his belt but seems like we may as well take the kid who visited today if that’s the case. Hawthorne?

Why? St John's is more loaded than we are at SG. they just got the Stanford guy.
For the same reason I said the moment I heard UK was contacting him. We run a very specific system and are 12 deep already. Ian Jackson would demand shots, PT, money that I didn’t think we could offer. The Pope system relies on having multiple guys working almost co-equally together. I’m not throwing shade at Jackson —- I never saw him as a fit here. If Pope really wanted him, we’d have been on him sooner, just my opinion.

We don’t need THE guy, we need a guy.

This player is being ignored by anybody who has had success in the NIL/Portal landscape so far.

Forgot about him, There hasn't been much info out on him.. unless i missed it. I guess the visit was today, so maybe some info will be out tomorrow. Not sure Hawthorne would help much this coming season - that kid is extremely skinny. Really good length , but not super twitchy.

Yeah Jackson isn't a stud and you created a thread about how much you wanted the Stanford guy.
Yeah but I never called the Stanford guy a stud man. The Stanford guy is a good shooter, which is what we need. The “stud” term and acting liking Kentucky has to have one is not true.

Oh lord. Guys don't come for the front of the jersey anymore. It's not 1955. Maybe guys like Perry but that's it.
Thanks for letting my know. I may need to go buy a calendar 😂

In all seriousness, I like you as a poster, Cornbread. You seem to always be so worried about the roster —- we can’t change it haha. Don’t shortchange yourself, man. Let’s enjoy the ride. I believe in the vision Pope has and I believe you’re gonna be proud of what you see. That’s just my opinion.

This is a good example of why I think fans need to avoid getting fixated on any one player as being a “must have” recruit. There are literally thousands of guys out there around the world with skill sets to fit roles that any given team might need. To act like there are only a couple shooting guards who are capable of filling our needs is very naive.

I have no idea if UK is even looking at this guy. But the point is there are other players out there that can provide what we are looking for on our roster.

Pope is having trouble finding a 2 guard. It is what it is but people acting like it's not true are in denial.

Could be a just in case thing if Hawthorne recommits to WVU or to VT, if they've even reached out to Glover

I'm sure the money has nothing to do with it. Guys like Oweh are just playing for the name on the jersey.
You get paid good to be a Kentucky player. Based on what we have heard, however, we don’t overpay anyone and I think I understand why. It’s a filter. I watched BBN Tonight anf I heard Pope keep using that word “filter.” Starting to think he’s got the right idea. The players who are here want to be HERE and they want to be part of a TEAM. That’s why it’s going to work in the long run imo.

Bro, folks on here were wringing their hands last year when Aiden Mahaney visited and there were pictures of him out to eat with Pope, etc. and then like 2 days later he picks UConn.
If Mahaney comes here, Brea goes elsewhere.

I’m just saying, sometimes missing on a player can be a blessing in disguise. I do agree with you though that missing on a half dozen is cause for alarm.
