Realistically, UofL scored 1.3 points per possession, and they missed 7 straight FTs at the end. You’re not going to win many games when you give that up on defense. I and others looked at the turnovers after the game and said well, we cut those down and we likely win. Maybe, but if you look at total possessions Louisville only had one more than UK, it was the defense that lost that game. 88 points ought to be enough.

The good news is if we get a healthy JQ back this season, we might have the best defensive big in CBB.
Which is what makes this hand wringing about the defense moot.
The simple fact is, if we had won, it would all be wine and candy today. This happens anytime UK loses a game. Simple fact is, we were missing our best player, on the road, against a good team, and lost a good game. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. If the game were in Rupp, and JQ played and Brown didn't, we blow them out. Make it apples to apples and tge sky stops falling

Brother, he said we gave up 1.3 PPP and you see that and say “which is what makes this hand wringing about the defense moot”???? lol….WHUT!? 1.3 PPP is terrible defense.

He isn’t an elite rebounder. No argument from me there. If you can’t switch on defense because your big is getting zipped by for layups though the rebounding doesn’t help so much. I’m thinking Mo at center could be an option if Pope is brave enough
I’m pretty sure I read offseason chatter of MoD playing some center in practice, I would love to see that too.

Never felt good about Lowe. Now I know why. Hope he recovers and does well, however, unless he takes 1.5 months off to heal and rehab it's futile.

It was one game. And the 1.3 has a lot to do with how well Louisville played. There is no defense for shot making. We weren't perfect, but our defense is going to be just fine

I know it was Louisvillle and that adds salt to the wound, but we have to understand that we struggle in our first few road games every year.

Remember Clemson last year? It looked like we were playing with concrete shoes on.

But something was off with our team. I think we can all agree on that. Maybe it was the atmosphere, maybe it was the multiple punches we took to the mouth… maybe it was both, but nevertheless, we looked like a shell shocked team playing its first true road game.

The other thing that gets me is, it seems like every year, we also play like crap in MSG and also in that 4 team challenge we play with UCLA, OSU and unc. We own unc, but the other 2 seem to kick our asses in that challenge and that's just weird.

If your defense is elite, you dont chalk it up to the offense when you give up 1.3 PPP. It was just one game but deserves criticism

Right now , Garrison is still quite a bit better than Moreno. Moreno is a better paint scorer and rebounder though. I think Moreno will be a beast later in his career. That said, Garrison and Chandler need to be locked in a room together until they figure out how to have better chemistry together.
You Sir, have lost your whole damn mind if you believe Garrison is “still quite a bit better” than Moreno!?? Like I’m not even effin around, you may need some help! wtf are you watching???

I think some are over dramatic when they lay EVERYTHING at the feet of the coaching staff. However, this is one time that I'm going to do just that. I honestly didn't understand the logic of rushing Lowe back before he was ready just to try and win one game which is clearly what happened here (especially one that was VERY early in the season, on the road, and against a rival that has been frothing at the mouth to get one over on us). If we couldn't beat them with every HEALTHY body we've got then it is what it is, congratulate the punks and move on to the next one. We have 28 regular season games left after that one. This is the time we should be focusing on getting better and getting everyone close to 100% healthy, there was no need to rush, it wasn't tournament time. Going by a normal timetable for this type of injury we probably would've got him back close to Thanksgiving. Now we're looking at probably a close to Christmas or New Years return. Just a bad call, IMO, and one that I hope doesn't come back to bite us throughout the season.
You’re making the assumption he “rushed” him back. If the medical staff said he is good to go and Lowe did as well, why wouldn’t he? If he didn’t and it was leaked he was cleared to play and we lost they would eat Pope alive.

Considering Pearl retired a year after we almost hired him, I think it’s unlikely he would’ve been our coach for even 5 years.

Obviously it’s early to be making any sweeping proclamations on Pope and his ability to get the job done. I think he’s a smart guy who will figure it out, and what he lacks in “edge” he may be able to make up for with his drive and desire to succeed in his dream job.

That said, in the event it doesn’t work out, I will be keeping an eye on Will Wade. Edge, grit, a nasty streak, mean, call it what you will, he has it. Of course Barnhart will never hire him, but surely MB is on the verge of retirement…
I’m thinking Pearl would’ve went longer had he been hired here but we will never know.

I know it’s the benefit of hindsight but I thought it strange the kid was playing in a huge harness. It’s early November. Just let him take his time in recovery.

Different seeing Lamont do it at the end of the season and end of his college career. There was over 5 months from the time of the initial injury and the postseason.

I get the sense of a JQ return too soon too. Can just feel it coming. Especially if we struggle in the big games without Lowe
