Every single fan said we must get more athletic to compete in the SEC. If he is an athlete, Pope will find ways for him the help the team.

As long as we have 2-3 decent 3 point shooters on the court with him I like the pickup. We lacked the ability to get by defenders 1v1 last season and it seems like that might be his best ability. Him, OO, Jasper, Kam all look to be guys that can force help defenders on defense.

Anyone that wasn’t didn’t know basketball

But like I said Butler led his team to a Final Four and was a defensive player of the year.
Yes these are apples to oranges in comparison. I loved the butler addition just because of the experience he brought to the team. He had Championship game experience and he was defensive player of the year in his league! This guy is no comparison to Butler!

My only question is, can he play defense. He doesn’t seem to be a great shooter but if he’s good at everything else he doesn’t have to be.

Sure looks like hes going to need alot of work. Worrisome hes a poor defender since we wont have a shot eraser.

Sure feels like a bargain find because probably barely anyone else was interested. Everyone is analytics driven and his are poor.

If we're even going to compete for an sec title, we're going to need him to vastly improve or just be a depth piece; and you can pretty much bank on it having to be the former.

So this is definitely not upgrading from Butler though and that’s what we needed to do.

Sure doesn't look like an upgrade of any sort.

He is a poor defender and can’t shoot.

His ORtg is 106 (decent) his DRtg is 107 (bad). That means for every 100 possessions he is on the court he loses a team 1 point. That’s awful.

The fact we're celebrating this shows how far off we are from competing even for an sec title. We need way better than this to catch up with Florida, bama, Tennessee, and Auburn.

Don't even consider the ncaa title.

I don't know why people say players will get better shooting the 3 in Pope's system. Maybe, but Brea, Oweh, and Kriisa didn't. As of right now we don't have many sharp shooters on the team next year. Can they get better? Sure, but it's not guaranteed. Here are the three point percentages from this year:

Oweh: 35.5%
Chandler: 34.7%
Noah: 33.3%
Perry: 32.1%
Garrison: 30%

Lowe: 26.6%
K. Williams: 41.2%

You don’t this is a piece of the equation? You forget about Jasper, Lewis, Oweh?

To me the we only know one of those three ..........Jasper and Lewis may very well be good here. But until they are actually here IMO they are unknown quantities.

And Oweh while i absolutely love him and he had a bunch of really great games at times tended to be a bit out of control as well.

Not many of us had heard of Lamont Butler and turned out to be pretty good. Lowe can get to the basket anytime he wants to and lt looks like he knows what to do with it. If the shots not there he hits the open man. It looks like he pretty hard to guard, quick and twitchy, I think he’s a good choice!
Ditto.

6 3 long soph. Like that. 2 yrs left.

I’ll wait and make up my own mind before judging.

Feel like I’m better doing that than taking the opinion from some who probably didn’t ever really play. Usually good free throw shooters can shoot.
He’ll get plenty of practice on the 3 at UK. Expect he’ll get much better all around working with this staff.

Good... LORD, People.

This dude is a slasher who can get to the paint easily. Exactly the player y'all were clamoring for last year. He shoots 88% from the charity stripe and shot 35% from three the year before last.

Clearly, this year's 27% or whatever it is from 3 is an anomaly that's probably there because he was the only good player on a garbage team and was tasked with too much.

If we actually got this dude, it's an INSANELY good pickup. Him and Otega will get to the rim at will next year.
But will they make the layup? I do like his assist numbers. Get to the lane and kick out to a good 3-pt shooter. Whoever that’s going to be . . . .

The shooting will come along. 35% from three his first season. Major drop this season, but 88%ft is excellent, and I think the three shot will come along nicely. Athletic enough to play good D.

Great addition. Seems like the kind of PG Cal would regularly bring in. Athletic slasher.

Also I read on here 2 days ago that Pope and staff met with this guy and that other guy and pitched theM on playing the 1 and the 2 so might be good news for the other guy you guys are excited about (sorry can’t remember his name lol I have no idea how you guys keep up with the portal 😂 )

37% shooter and 26% from 3 n the mid major awful acc. Will be interesting to see the spin Job from our fanbase on this.
He shot much better as a freshman.

With great spacing and good shooters around him, he'll shoot much better next year.

He has really nice form on his shot.

That last part is interesting. Because you would think someone that good at free throws it would translate to the 3 point line. We shall see tho I guess.
It was as a frosh then I’m assuming he was asked to do too much and started chucking up shots. Shot selection will be key part of his development

I’m partial to lefties so he’s got that going for him. Form on shot looks fine. Percentages are largely based on the quality of shot you’re getting. Let’s see what he can do in our system. Looks like a nice player.

I think Garrison will continue working on his threes. Kam will be a solid shooter. I think Oweh makes a big jump next year on his shooting since that's his one main drawback as a SG. Trent. Maybe Perry gets his confidence and shot back when he's not tasked with too much too soon. Alvaro, if we get him, will be a sharpshooter.

We'll have shooters.

and the older you get the more you mature so who says Oweh can’t fix that part of his game.

I've seen enough of this to know that usually when we get to years 2 and 3 and beyond, players for the most part tend to be what they are.

Every October we always hear player X looks so good in practice. And player Y got so much better.

Then the season hits and those players are what they are for the most part.

I expect Oweh to give us similar production to what he gave us this season. And for that part of the team, I think that's just fine. He's going to be a key contributor here.

But I just don't think it's wise to go into a season and think he'll be a much better player than he's been.
