that descended around this cat, along with the usual cadre of coaching johns looking to score. In other words he was highly sought after.

Edited to remove my erroneous belief that this dude is a point guard. F!

we welcome you Jalen. Anytime we can improve the talent level on our team and take away a scholly to an under acheiving player it is a good thing .

Ican only imagine after a year of sitting the bench andpost-rehab. Might as well surrender his position to Benock.

a healthy Twany than it would be with say, Riley Benock. Maybe not in the short term just b/c of the experience Benock has over Twany, but we desperately need more ball handlers. Bost was the only player on the whole team last year that I felt comfortable with bringing the ball up the floor. Just think of all the turnovers we had just bringing the ball up the court.

Rumor is Benock will give up his scholarship (and likely his playing time).

FWIW, I talked to an Auburn basketball fan (yes they exist) about this guy and it seems Auburn fans were comparing him to Tay Waller due to his size, shooting ability and quick release.

If Beckham leaves, that alone is proof enough for everyone who repeated to death the idea that we missed him this year that they were as wrong as it gets. If a player cant even keep his spot on this team when he is the backup PG, then he clearly wasnt ever missed.

If Benock comes off scholarship, this Steele guy better REALLY be good. As in immediate impact good.

Its good to see up continue to recruit and sign undersized perimeter players that are 2*/low 3* in rating. We lose one of these players and bring in two.

Is Smith really not reliable/healthy enough to even be a backup to the backup for the SG and or SF spot? My gosh, we have Turner, Osby, Smith, Benock, Johnson, and Bryant already for those 2 spots...apparently 1 more is needed.

And if Beckham is gone, who plays the point when Bost is out or hurt?</p>

Steele said Twanny was his host, was very cool, and that he is one of the reasons he chose State. So that doesn't sound like Twanny is going anywhere.

And this shows again how good Stansbury and his staff recruits. Now next years class can be made up of primarily big men. Now we can look forward to te anti Stans crowd to try and spin a negative out of this but they will have a hard time on this, the kid is a pure shooter.

He said that big time programs were looking at Steele when Auburn released him. This kid is a scorer and we need a guy at the 2 guard(natural 2 guard) that can score. MSU is fortunate to have landed him. I know that Florida was looking hard at him.

I know he's Tennessee's Mr Basketball, but his offer list isn't impressive nor is his rating on either recruiting site. I'm not saying he's a bad pickup but it isn't like we've signed a McDonald's All-American or anybody that was on any big school's radar.

but it could be a really nice pick up if Shaun Smith can't get healthy. As long as he pans out, of course.

I don't know much about the guy but I do know that we are going to miss Barry Stewart and Steele sounds like he might be able to fill that void. I have my doubts about whether or not we can count on Turner or Smith at the two guard spot next season.

Since you are connected, what is going to happen? If Twanny isnt leaving, then is Benock a walk on come August?

As for spinning a negative out of this, i just really really hope he is able to immediately play and contribute. Otherwise, what was the point?...we can sign an undersized and lowstarred2g that can shoot at anytime.

Since when is a 6'3 shooting guard undersized? It is pretty rare to have a really good shooting guard that is taller than 6'5 in the college game.

Of course, Coach34 will claim he was "just lucky" as usual.

when an all-american forward drops in your lap because one of his teammates shot another over drugs, and then said AA is immediately ruled eligible by the NCAA. Thats luck.

Signing a top 10 prospect because USC and UCLA view him as too dirty to sign is luck

Getting another skinny 2 guard in the mold of a Barry Stewart isnt luck. That happens alot

The "Recruiter" better start getting lucky with these in-state guys for 2011- the wolves are beginning to climb the fence he built around the state of Mississippi

Not an All-American, but a solid offer sheet. From what I've read, he sounds like he elevates well on his jumper and can really score the basketball. I think he is a rich man's Barry Stewart.

Stans beat out Dayton, Cincy & Ole Miss to sign Steele. It's not like he was being recruited by Tenn & UK. I don't see the big deal wth another guard,I guess Stans needs another shooter so we can live and die b the 3 ball yet again.

As Veazy said last night in his chat, Stewart had offers from schools like MTSU and Chatanooga. Steele may never be as good as Barry, but his offer list says, at the very least, that he's a better prospect than Stewart was coming out of high school.

I didn't think he even had that. I have always been under the impression it was either Lipscomb or nothing for him before we came with an offer late.

The kid is a good prospect. It doesn't make a **** how we got him, we got him and that took some work. I continue to be amazed how the blind hatred continues. Coach, please get on some meds. You are absolutely obsessed with your negativity about our basketball team. Are you sure you are not Richard Williams, Duane Reboul, or an Ole Miss fan. Gee, you could turn a rainbow into a hurricane. Bitched when Stans went to Tenn to recruit the kid and missed Jarvis's award even though Jarvis said he understood why he was gone.***** when he signs a good player. Give us a break for at least a few months. Now, as far as opening up the scholarship, there are several options and most folks think benock will be on an academic schorlarship but i can assure you, we wouldn't have signed the kid if this hadn't been discussed and thought out. Soryy that the staff didn't call Fish or you to see if it was okay. Life sucks doesn't it!!!

That won't fix the situation since a player on any scholarship, athletic or academic, counts against the total number allowed.

Oddly enought, size doesnt just relate to height. A165lbSG that is 6'3 is undersized.

...read that on Rivals. Google showed me a couple other stats that are higher. If he isnt really that, then ill happily drop that undersized comment.

There may be one who leaves on his own, there could be an academic situation, or someone who is a medical hardship. Just give the coaches some credit and what does it matter if none of us know. Check in areound Sept. 1st and I'm sure it will be clear to all. I'm sure nobody is sitting on pins and needles other than the detractors who are hoping all the good players leave so they can ***** and moan some more.

One of my best friends was one of Jalen's coaches in high school. He has told me we have gotten a very huge steal in this commit. According to him, Jalen is a great shooter and he is good at all the things that he is credited for but, he hustles his *** off, plays good D, and he knows how to win.

I think people are interested to see who leaves/gives up a scholarship because they care about the program and are interested in MSU basketball. So when athere is going to be a roster change, it creates interest.

Who on earth would leave on their own at this point? That is done earlier. At this point, if someone leaves its because of grades orit has been 'suggested' that they go elsewhere and are helped out withfinding a new school.

And the only way a medical hardship would even free up a scholarship would be if a player actuallycant ever play again. MSU can continue the scholarship without it affecting the limit. Like that UT guy with the heartcondition. Is Shaun Smith never going to play? Is Riek permanantly done? Is Bailey so bad off he is done for ever? If no, then that doesntfree up a scholarship.

so crap happens, but if we get a chance to get a kid who is better than what we have, then we better jump at it. It is a good pickup. None of the rest matters until it plays out. Let the coaches and MSU worry about it, they will get it worked out.

Its a message board about MSU sports. That means MSU sports issues are discussed, predicted, etc. So when one of the major MSUsports oversigns in a given year, there will be discussion on how the team will get down to the acceptable level.

I will let the coaches worry about it because thats their job. Im not actually worried they wont somehow get down to the legal limit, im wonderingwho will be affected and in what way.

Again, its an MSU message board, wediscuss ****. Everyone knows it will get worked out.
