Stay in shape and do what the trainers tell you. Heck were talking losing millions because he can't put down the barbeque and Snickers candy bar.

There was a legitimate debate over whether Peyton or Leaf should go first in that draft. On the other hand, lots of people said Russell would never amount to anything in the NFL. Luckily for him and his wallet, Al Davis and the Raiders were drafting first. Truth be told, Al probably didn't know who JaMarcus was until he shredded a ****** Notre Dame team in the Sugar Bowl.

...is the Sly Croom of NFL owners.

Didn't Ryan Leaf get a wrist injury that he never recovered from? I remember seeing try to QB the Cowboys. He did OK until his write popped out of joint.

JR never had a chance with the Raiders. JR with the Raiders = Omar Conner/Croom at MSU. We'll never know what he could have been - except that he could have done a lot better outside that joke of a system.

He never looked like a good QB to me in college, just used his freak athleticism to be successful in college. I remember all the talking heads saying, "A talent like that only comes around once a decade, so you HAVE to draft him!!!!!!".

It is strange to see them actually making some decent football decisions right now

Russell, Jason Campbell, Vick, Vince Young....all recent first round picks who have not lived up to the hype. Just a matter of time before some mainstream media person opens his or her mouth and the "racist" onslaught will begin. More fodder for Jason Whitlock and Jemele Hill.

he was more a 3rd round kinda talent... football people (read: not Al Davis) were skeptical of Russell as well but Davis was enamored with him and took him #1 anyway.. Vince Young has shown he can win football games as did Vick before him. The washout rate on QBs is high anyway.. basically a 50/50 proposition.

it's just the dual threat deal, which happens to be a black dude most of the time. Campbell doesn't really fit does he? He doesn't suck, and wasn't he just traded somewhere and expected to start immediately? Russell should not even be in this conversation. Vick and Young are more what I doubt personally. Donovan McNabb is a legit dual threat, but at a minimum you have to have the great arm and great decision making to be an NFL QB. McNabb has it, in addition to his legs. Vick and Young don't. Or Quincy Carter. Tebow is sort of the same mold, as is Eric Crouch.

Speaking of Relf, he reminds me a lot of Russell in college. Big, laser arm, good running ability, and can't seem to put it all together.

So, they can save $7 million this year alone by cutting him, because he will never set foot on the field. He isn't even close to being an NFL caliber quarterback anymore. Here are the details, see if you can figure it out because I can't.

A guy like Vince Young did things in college that made him look like superman. Either you're born with that ability or you're not (and very few are). Some QBs are so athletic & talented that I believe they don't have to work as hard playing sports as most people. They can get on agood collegeteam andthen depend on their pure athletic ability to succeed. These guys all made it look easy (whether we're talking about dualthreat QBs or pure passers like Russell - remember he had a great JR season).

QB is a high profile position so if they are one of the best during their final year, theyare typically going to get drafted high & with a stroke of the pen they make more money than most of us could ever dream to make in a lifetime. They'vegotten this far on talentalone plusa little work, but now they're in the NFL and everyone is talented. It's a totally new environment and to succeed they've got to work harder than they ever have before. But since they've just made millions there is no motivation to work harder. Combine that with the fact that these guys have probably spent their lives on winning teams - you put a guy who is used to winning championships on the worst team in the NFL & it's got to be frustrating/depressing for them. He's probably content to just sit there making millions until they cut him.</p>
