Penn State has fired head coach James Franklin after a 3-3 start to the 2025 season. Franklin finished with a 104-45 record with the program.
Love it!!! Penn St deserves better and Franklin was always, always a fraud. He had no business coaching that team or any team. Awful coach.![]()

He wasn't awful at Vandy. He was as good as any coach I've ever seen at shortening games that his team needed to close out and lengthening games where they had ground to cover to get back in them.Love it!!! Respectfully disagree. He was awful. Had no business coaching a top tier program. He wasn't awful at Vandy. He was as good as any coach I've ever seen at shortening games that his team needed to close out and lengthening games where they had ground to cover to get back in them.
Penn State doesn't deserve crap.
"Vanderbilt's 25 combined wins in Franklin's three years in charge was the Commodores' highest total in school history. Franklin finished his Vanderbilt career with a record of 24–15 (an average of 8 wins per year)." Two of those were 9 win seasons.Respectfully disagree. He was awful. Had no business coaching a top tier program.
Although I do understand the sentiment behind the PSU comment.

Respect your opinion but you seem to be the only one saying that.Respectfully disagree. He was awful. Had no business coaching a top tier program.

I understand. I just think there is quite the jump from coaching a lowly Vandy team to immediately jumping to a top tier program. I didn't think it was warranted at the time of his hiring and I feel somewhat validated today. He did some good things at Vandy but I always chalked that up to being a flash in the pan. PSU gambled and lost. It's almost as if they could have seen this coming....I did. Regardless, I concede he did pretty good at Vandy. But at PSU you could literally count on him losing big games. Year after year after year.Respect your opinion but you seem to be the only one saying that.
That shouldn't be any impediment to us going after him. The only guy I've seen win more games in which he was only near-equal to the other team was Vince Dooley. Of course, Franklin's sample size at Vandy was smaller.Respectfully disagree. He was awful. Had no business coaching a top tier program.

I'm good with it. The only way I'd be better with it would be if we were talking about ND.Penn State may very well find themselves the next Nebraska.
I agree with you. I think he'd do well here in any capacity. I don't think Beamers ego would allow that, but I agree with you. That shouldn't be any impediment to us going after him. The only guy I've seen win more games in which he was only near-equal to the other team was Vince Dooley. Of course, Franklin's sample size at Vandy was smaller.
I'm touting him as Beamer's replacement, but I suspect you knew that.I agree with you. I think he'd do well here in any capacity. I don't think Beamers ego would allow that, but I agree with you.
No, sir. Head coach or nothing for Franklin. Too many jobs are open and will open. He won't have to settle if he wants to coach. How about open up pocketbook and hire Franklin as OC. Then if Shane doesn't last, let Franklin coach half a season as interim coach. The guy is probably motivated to prove himself. I wasn't super impressed with resume at Vandy but he made Penn State very competitive though they couldn't rise to UM and OH State level.
I wasn't sure if you were making a case for him at OC, OL, or HC - but I'm good with all 3. It pains me to say it given everything else I've said about him, but I think he would be an upgrade at all 3 positions. That's sad, but yeah, I'm good with it.I'm touting him as Beamer's replacement, but I suspect you knew that.
If you can't win the big game with loads of talent I don't seejow you win it with less.James Franklin is a very good coach and he'll have his pick of jobs.
He's already done it. Continued winning in coaching is largely a matter of fit. But he might also attract more money to this program. If you can't win the big game with loads of talent I don't seejow you win it with less.
He won with less than us at Vandy. If you can't win the big game with loads of talent I don't seejow you win it with less.
He wouldn't be good with two of the three, not should he be.I wasn't sure if you were making a case for him at OC, OL, or HC - but I'm good with all 3. It pains me to say it given everything else I've said about him, but I think he would be an upgrade at all 3 positions. That's sad, but yeah, I'm good with it.
Of course he would be the OC as well. No, sir. Head coach or nothing for Franklin. Too many jobs are open and will open. He won't have to settle if he wants to coach.
Right now I just want better than we have. 5 years from now I'll probably want better than that. What has James Franklin ever done?
Could be; could be not.Of course he would be the OC as well.
My Brother is a Vandy Alum, they HATED it when he left.... IMO he did a god job at Vandy, prior to NIL and Portal, what he made Vandy for a couple years was impressive!!"Vanderbilt's 25 combined wins in Franklin's three years in charge was the Commodores' highest total in school history. Franklin finished his Vanderbilt career with a record of 24–15 (an average of 8 wins per year)." Two of those were 9 win seasons.
Thats what i say- wnd this Beamer experiment now![]()

That would suit the dickens out of me.I have a suspicion PSU is going to come on the short side of the coaching change spree.
Grew up a PSU "fan" since that's where my parents are from, even though I was raised in SC.That would suit the dickens out of me.
