I say Charles. The lack of another inside threat this year has been hurting us. If he was back we would not have to run this 4 guard line up and we would not live and die by the three. We would be, once again, a huge inside threat with a shot blocker and a guy who loves to push around down low.

Rhodes is the guy I miss. I wouldn't take it as far as a man crush (see Dan Mullen) but we really miss Charles this year.

rhodes' inside presence last year was the base that the rest of the team was built on. when he got going inside, it sucked in defenses to open the perimeter. also, jarvis was in there, too, so if they doubled one, the other was usually open, or a guy on the wing.
jamont was an excellent player and won a few games almost seemingly by himself. one of the knocks against him was forcing the issue when the team was struggling. it worked out from time to time, but when it didnt, the team inevitably would begin to slide away and think they had no chance...

games. At least Gordon was consistent. Didn't Gordon average more rebounds than Rhodes or at least very close? The point is Gordon would help our rebounding and defense just as much as Rhodes.

but for this year, i feel we'd need a another big.
at this point right now, gordon > bost ; rhodes > bailey/johnson

from what i've seen, i think bost will be just as good as jamont was in certain aspects of his game, if he doesnt surpass him in some.

and i know johnson was a senior, so we couldnt have had him come back, anyway. but you know, for the sake of agrument...

For my money, Rhodes was the best player on the team last year easily.. only thing is that a big needs someone to get him the ball while Gordon has the ball almost all the time

Charles changed the game and brought energy and leadership among everyone.

Jamont could be an incredible player and i loved watching him play, but his stubborness could also sink us in games where his shooting was off but he'd continue to rain 3's from 8 feet beyond the arc

I thought this would be a little closer.

I'll take a good big guy to bump around down low over a very very talented point guard who turns the ball over alot and takes dump shots.

.....but if I could have Jamoney not on the point but at the wing/slasher position, and Dee as my PG, then I might take Jamont. I voted for CR because we are so thin in the post (literally with JV and depth wise) but a lineup of Dee, Barry, Jamoney, Ravern and Jarvis with Phil and Osby subbing in would still be pretty good. If the question is Jamont as a PG and splitting time with Dee, then no way, gimme Rhodes.

But either one of those guys would be huge to this team. If we could swap out Phil for Jamont, then I would be a fan of the 4 guard lineup. I hear people talk about how Phil is a good defender and all that, but Jamont was a better defender and I can assure you that he would have guarded Alonzo Gee and Tasmin Mitchell better than Phil did. Also if you had him at the 4 spot, he could hang around the basket more than he did last year and get some rebounds.

But as I said, either one of those guys would help this team tremendously.

He would really add a lot to this team, if Rick would put him at 3 and let bost run point.
Rick wouldn't have done that so I am happy J is gone!

Rhodes is the obivious choice because he allows Jarvis to roam an block shots. Jarvis is held down in the post now because he is the only presence. His blocks will be way down this year.

Everyone wants to say what if Ole Miss wasn't hurt.... What if we didn't have all the transfers...

Both players had 2 versions. There was "Head up my ***, don't give a ****, I'm injured, lazy, bad attitude" Charles, and then there was "Give a ****, dominant inside presence, take over games, inside-outside, fiery, thunderdunk" Charles. Give a **** Charles disappeared from the second half of the '06-07 season until SEC play started last year. My guess is that he realized that it was about over for him and that he needed to bring it to improve his draft stock. Plus, he had the wrist injury and such, but damn, he was dominant last year in SEC play.

There was "Selfish, turnover-machine, try to do too much, ballhog, don't listen to Stans" Jamont, and then there was "Make everybody around me better, look to dish before bulling my way inside, take high-% shots, dominant, confident, win the game first" Jamont. Which one showed up to any given game was really unpredictable with him.

I would take good Jamont or good Charles any day of the week, but I think for this team right now, I'd take Charles anyway... I just think he'd fit better.
