Varnado arrives to his new team after averaging 13.8 points and 10.3
rebounds per game during his senior year in the University of
Mississippi State.

The sheep on the board were all saying that SWAT would play in the NBA, but he is just a tweener shot blocker with no real position in the NBA.
I wish him all the luck in Italy, hopefully he can make some good money for himself and his family.

Since Haslem got popped for weed. I wonder if he is able to get out of that contract if the Heat come calling.

nba basketball....which i admit is very little causer frankly i couldn't care less about it...but i digress.....i'm amazed that a guy who was as dominant and successful in the sec can't make an nba roster. i would have thought he was a lock for the nba.

nothing is going to come of that. whether it's true or not, it's looking like the guy riding with U is going to take the fall.
U's lawyer has issued 2 statements saying that Haslem didn't know it was in the car and that the passenger took full responsibility

For the most part, with the exception of the 5 spot, everyone else on the floor has to be somewhat of a ball handler. Jarvis has the ball skills of a 5 and the body of a 3 or a small 4.

It's just a matter of finding a fit - heck Adonal Foyle has played a ton of years in the league and probably logs 20 minutes a season. One you establish yourself as a good bench/practice player you can have a long career in the NBA.

I mean Mark Madsen has been in the league for how long?

He needs to add some weight improve a little offensively and show what he can do against a little better competition and he still might get a shot late this year or next year.

I still think Jarvis will inevitably end up in the NBA. LeBron's coming to Miami totally changed everything. Instead oftrying to developa rookie they went after veteran free agents to win a title now. Jarvis just got squeezed out. Varnado is absolutely good enough to make a team like Memphis or Minnesota. Not making the Heat does not mean he is not good enough for the NBA.

then a team like that would have signed him. Fish is right. Jarvis was a very good college player, but he's a long-shot for the NBA.

I admit Jarvis is still very raw but he has also shown the ability to be coachable and learn. I just don't think he will be exiled forever to Europe.

How does it work in this type of situation? Does the Heat still have the rights to Jarviseven though he is playing in Italyor is Jarvis free to go and play anywhere he wants?

I am surprised he wasn't invited to an NBA camp for a team looking for some interior defense...but I think most teams were just convinced he wasn't strong enough. He needs to go overseas and find a way to put on 20-30 pounds.

Not exactly. If the Heat cut him, he could have signed with another team but I think Jarvis just saw the writing on the wall and went ahead and took the Italy contract while it was on the table. Another team cant just come and sign a drafted player off another team. They are still under contract, just not a guaranteed one. Once the Heat eventually Cut varnado, then Maybe Memphis or another team would have signed him but it was a gamble. Either take the money across seas while ita available or gamble on making the Heat (slim chance) or waiting to be cut by the heat and then try out for another team (slim chance because by then most roster spots are filled). im not saying Jarvis is NBA material but this is why they say it always better to go undrafted than picked in the 2nd round.

Read my post above. He was under contract for the Heat. you cant just leave one NBA team and join another one. he had to wait to be cut by the Heat first. By then, most rosters would already have been filled. Its better to be undrafted than picked in the 2nd round.
