3. Marshall Henderson -- not coach Andy Kennedy -- is running the show at Ole Miss. Seriously, do the Rebels have any rules for their shooting guard? Last week, Henderson called other SEC coaches "losers." He trash-talks opposing fans; he flipped off the crowd at the Sprint Center after Ole Miss' loss to La Salle on Sunday; and he has to have an "escort" sit with him during interviews to make sure he doesn't mouth off. A lot of good that's doing. Kennedy, though, hardly seems bothered. On Friday, just hours after Ole Miss defeated Wisconsin, Henderson was photographed at a sports bar across the street from the arena. The pictures spread like wildfire on Twitter. There were 31 other teams that won round-of-64 games. How many of their players were photographed in similar situations? When asked about Henderson's postgame activities, Kennedy noted that Henderson was 22 years old and said he didn't make the player "recite his ABCs backwards" when he returned to the hotel, also noting that Henderson was attentive in a 10 p.m. meeting. The comment made Kennedy look foolish. Other coaches and administrators in Kansas City were laughing at him behind his back. Henderson (who averaged 20.1 points per game) might have saved Kennedy's job, but he's damaging his reputation.

Hmmm...I'd say he summed it up pretty good.

Did he have to take a cab back to the hotel after the Badger game?

Kennedy is quickly becoming Stansbury part deaux

If Henderson stays another year- he could easily end up fulfilling the role of Renardo Sidney

Henderson is a starter, plays the majority of the game, and is often the leading scorer for their team. While he is similar to Sidney off the court, he is the inverse of Sidney on the court.

May be but I wish we could have gotten half the production out of Sidney that OM got out of Henderson this year. Henderson has his problems but effort on the basketball court is not one of them.

It's not a dumpster fire yet.....but the trash, the can, and the lit match have now been placed in the same alley. If Marshall returns, it will be a full blaze by the end of next season.

As a player, AK was a lot like Marshall is now. Maybe not quite as "in your face," but close. That's one of the reasons he's cutting him so much slack.

Bravo. Well put.

Marshall's attitude and everything will still be there next season. Holloway and Buckner, however, will not be there to rebound and bail him out.

Maybe lost in Marshall's flash, Murphy was one of the leading rebounders (I think #2) in the SEC this year, and he scored like 26 points against us in their loss.

He might be the hero of America's trailer parks this season, but following a long list of Ole Miss players from numerous sports before him, he will be forgotten and hated by their students before next march.

Yeah- I don't get the constant defense of his antics. Most other places would have slapped him on the wrist a few times.

When asked about the recent bar incident, Ross Bjork said they immediately called him and asked him to return to the hotel. From what he could see, he said, "all I could see was a clear drink in a plastic cup near him. Who knows whose it was??".

Paraphrased, but I don't get this comment from an AD.

The middle fingers; that's all that happened because his two "handlers" apparently jumped out to get him. I don't know that I buy the comments about his sister.... I don't necessarily believe it wasn't said, but it was pretty predictable. I just think that's how he is when he loses. I just think his people got there a little too late.

I get that Kennedy was apparently like him, but geez... I never will get repeatedly standing behind the incidents and brushing all 10-12 of them off as minor details or being "misunderstood" when you never sanction him.

He's just a punk in every sense of the word.

You think that was good? Read what Doyel of all people had to say. An entire column on how everyone involved in the whole situation looked stupid because of the way they handled it. Even put this gem in there:

"You're at that line now, Marshall Henderson. Look at the other side. See those people cheering you on, Ole Miss students and fans? They're not rooting for you. They're rooting for the concept of you, the rebel who doesn't give a f---, but they're not the crowd you want. They're the people who see two kids in the schoolyard squaring up, and instead of trying to calm the situation they're screaming "fight!" and getting ready to upload video to YouTube."

Not quite the inverse. They both play pretty inept defense, and Henderson's scoring is misleading when you consider the number of rebounds he gives the other team off terrible shots.

"You look at the exposure, the branding of the entire university," athletics director Ross Bjork says. "In USA TODAY, I think we had more stories online (after Friday's win over Wisconsin) than any other program. We're in the New York Daily News. We're in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Yorker. …The positives are far outweighing those teachable moments we've had — and we'll continue to have those."

Yeah... I get it, but at the end of the day, the negatives are probably going to outweigh the positives. And it's kind of gross to read the AD basically saying, "hey..... we're just riding the pony until it gives out. You know it, I know it. It's not like we care about the kid, just what he can do for us."

Plus..... I don't want my AD having to be the guy texting him to come home from the bar. Surely you have a GA or somebody that can do that.. or damn, maybe you yourself. That kind of tells me Bjork may be the only guy who may even have clout.

It's disgusting. Beyond them just being Ole Miss, the way their athletic dept. has handled the entire thing has been one giant cluster17. The above quote, nice find btw (I believe he said that on the radio before the La Salle game), basically says 17 all conventional wisdom. The way Bjork has handled this is like a total amateur. He's basically saying "All publicity is good publicity." If our AD handled this situation like Bjork has, I would be 17n mad because Henderson has made Ole Miss look like a total 17n joke. Grow a pair and tell YOUR student-athlete to shut up and stop acting like a 16 year old girl.

They are using social media as a last ditch effort to generate any kind of momentum to save face. It started after they fired Nutt and the old AD. They looked at our athletic momentum, student enrollment numbers and every other aspect of our recent success and formulated a plan... a plan to be the LOUDEST social networking university in the SEC and continue to run the MS media outlets under the table. They are so wrapped up in being heard, bashing our successes and clawing for #1 recruiting classes that they have sacrificed their brand and reputation for a mere 2-3 years in the spotlight.

Thugs will be thugs as long as the coach allows it. He'll probably never play another game for Ole Miss, but Kennedy should have already sat him out a few games, or suspended him completely, but he didn't. It's his fault as much as it is Henderson's ... he's doing what he knows he can get away with.

Henderson is basically the Ole Miss basketball version of Gronk (so obviously not as good). Both care about exactly two things: being a baller and being a balla. Guys like Sidney don't care about anything. Henderson is a little unstable and parties hard, but he also practices his *** off and hustles nonstop when he's on the court. Comparing Henderson to Sidney reeks of jealousy. We can win without either type of player.
