Jasper has showcased what is what with Overtime Elite. A bunch of players who play ZERO defense and AAU ball. A me-first, 1-on-1 style. I hope we never recruit another OTE player again. He couldn't even bring the ball up the court against Iowa State, and we know he can't stay in front of any defender. He was -9 in 1:57 in the first half!!!!!

As pointed out, before NIL it was a little harder to criticize players ("they are just 18 years old") but now they are paid. Paid = take the criticism, plain and simple.

And the internet is what the internet is. That is the culture we live in now unfortunately. It is a small percentage of the overall fan base, but some people don't understand that.

I won’t personally attack the kid, but he DID get 1.1 million and an armored Tesla to play here.
So there should be SOME accountability.
Right? I missed a minor SLA once at work (which wasn’t my fault but the vendor’s) and got my *** grilled. I’m not making millions or driving a nice car.

NO CRYING ON THE YACHT! The average income in the Commonwealth is WAAAAAY lower than what he got to dribble a ball. He’ll find NO sympathy amongst the coal mines and corn fields.

If you're harassing our players on social media, stop. It's not worth it.

If Derrick is out looking for criticism or browsing message boards and being offended, get over it. Fans have a right to criticize every part of the program. We're the lifeblood of it.

JJ is about to transfer most likely after doing nothing for us, raking in probably $10k for every turnover he made, and his family wants to talk about professionalism and feelings.

Yep making more money in one year than a lot ever see. Boo hoo.

Aw man you know I've been around. Just a new account. I'm a UK fan. Not sure what Ive said that makes you question that

Edit: and if you're wondering why another new account....I dropped my iPhone in water and it did the ol die on me...lost everything and couldn't remember my credentials so easier to just make a new one with everything fresh
I hear ya. I was just trying to lighten up this mess. I couldn’t get the system to accept my USER NAME when they changed things so I had to make up a new one. Whether you liked me or not, my old name was Champcat11 and I had about 10-15 years of posts disappear. People are jumping my *ss saying I just joined and that’s just not true.

Right or wrong, fans are going to fan and have/always had the right to have an opinion. Definitely some should think before they comment but it is what it is. I’m not agreeing with it , just saying.

Bro your nephew sucked *** at basketball.... Also, there is a lot of pinned up frustration within this fanbase. Unfortunately, Jasper was an easy target because well, he was absolutely terrible.
Yeah he can go and get destroyed on defense, get 9 points lost in a minute, shoot terrible shots, and get the ball taken from him somewhere else. He was like $2 million dollars burnt up. Him/Lowe/JQ we lit like 8 millon dollars on fire. That’s like the total roster cost of the entire sweet 16.

JJ will be a very good player with coaching and a plan. He had neither here. No player was better at the end of the season than at the beginning. That's a complete failure to the players.

If JJ were to play for Pope next season it would look exactly the same. Perry left and got better. And his ceiling is far lower than JJ's.

There's also a huge difference between attacking a player and saying he sucks/critiquing play.

Example A: "Yo, Jasper is a *****. He's nothing but a worthless piece of ****" (Attacking a player)
Example B: "Man, Jasper is awful today. He's really sucking. Making selfish decisions." (Harsh critiquing)
Example C: "Jasper is selfish with the ball. He rarely looks for the open man. Takes hero shots." (Better critiquing- but not often used in heat of the moment- even by coaches.)

Both B and C are FINE. Issue is in today's "unicorn fart" world, even B is considering "attacking".

Your nephew had no idea what he was doing out on the court. Turned the ball over all the time. Couldn't handle a trap. Cooked on defense. Took step back jumper threes that missed.
I will give him credit in one area, I think he has great potential and creating space for himself. But he quit doing that toward the end.

I'd say DA grew alot- became solid. But the dude is a Senior. I expect that of him. CC was the only other one, but it was inconsistent.

I wish Jasper nothing but the best. It didn't go the way anyone wanted it to and if I were his uncle i'd be disappointed and frustrated too. I hope whatever his next stop is he kills it.

Oh goodie, another victim card being played.

If Jasper wants to play ball for a living, he and his family better grow thicker skin and ole JJ better start listening to his coaches.

Welcome to reality. Jasper is not a good basketball player and he got paid big money to perform. He chose to play the way he played, which was selfish, losing basketball.

Maybe uncle D should spend more time explaining to Jasper how to work hard to be a team player, instead of going after the fans that pour their lives into the program, only to see a kid play like he didn't care after being paid to care

Actually agree. Literally was the same player at the end of the season that he was at the beginning.

I think of Pitinos halftime speech. Where’s your grit? Learn to deal with adversity. Some fans are gonna run you off? Try playing for the Knicks and not producing. Ask Reed how Houston fans treated him until this season. He said the truth at the end. He wanted more PT to “prove himself”. All the other stuff is entitlement (We chose UK to build BS) and using the nasty fans as a scapegoat.

Did anyone notice that anytime JJ's replacement was sitting at the scorers table , JJ would immediately jack up a contended three pointer or drive into a crowd in the lane with the result a turnover or blocked shot?

He may someday be a decent college player but don't see an NBA future for him which is what his family envisioned when they sent him to a basketball prep program.

Ten years of salary for high earners, and about 12 to 15 years for regular joes.

The family sounds like they don't understand that the tough season was because of Jasper's poor play.

I'm sure they will continue their quest somewhere else. It is what is.

Yeah, he basically took shots at everyone but his nephew. It's like going to Harvard or MIT and being shocked that classes are hard, your peers are just as good if not better than you, and your professors don't give a damn about your feelings. And then crying about getting a D on the midterm.

He off all people should know the expectations of the basketball program, being a player on a team in the the athletics program. It's not like the cheerleaders or football players go, "Wow, I didn't know we were good at basketball and expect to be good?"

It doesn’t matter who coaches him if he doesn’t get stronger. Kid needs to make his body a priority wherever he plays next.

He looked like a weak high school kid out there - physically and mentally - all season.

And then ***** and moan there too. I can't think off too many major dudes that have left UK and then just KILLED it elsewhere.

Even Juzang (who was GOOD) didn't blow doors off. Welcome to the big leagues. Step up or step off.

This is a UK family. They've been diehard supporters for years and I remember about 1/5th of Jasper's games just being UK fans.

I think Jasper will pan out, just needs to get in the weight room .We always need at least one KY boy who contributes. It's how we've won championships here

I think JJ is a regular freshman. He’s not a John Calipari OAD freshman. He isn’t ready for BBN prime time and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If he works hard and puts his mind to defense and team oriented offense he’ll be a high quality player in the next 2-3 years. I’m not opposed to him staying at UK and working on his game. I think at his core he’s a good kid. It would be advisable for the Johnson family to stay off social media. They aren’t helping JJ with these ongoing comments.

Sounds like Jasper is gone.
Yeah I mean, I'm sure it sucks to be a disappointing player on a disappointing team, at Kentucky of all places. As Cal used to say, Kentucky isn't for everyone. On top of that Jasper's family have been posting and tweeting their dissatisfaction for like half the season, that didn't help him or the team. I think there's no doubt a split is coming and it's probably for the best for both sides. Jasper needs to get a fresh start and get some confidence back. UK needs to improve the roster and it's hard to do that if you retain everyone with eligibility.

No doubt they were, I mean what Jasper heard this year was a fraction of what BJ Boston got in 2020, or the Harrison twins for most of their first season. Nevertheless, whether this is a new phenomenon or it isn't (it isn't), the fact remains these guys are paid like pros now. There are European professionals who are coming to play college basketball because it's a pay raise. Right or wrong we as fans probably have less sympathy for their situation when they get paid in a year what many of us make in a decade or longer.

I have never criticized Jasper, nor any other player who played, because it's just not my thing. But boys, that was gibberish.

Other than presumably people who said bad things about his nephew I can't even understand who he's trying to attack.

Guys, turn off comments and get off the internet if you’re an athlete making millions of dollars for a major sports program, an entertainer making millions of dollars, or really any millionaire that’s in the spotlight. That just comes with the territory. Maybe they need a media training course for family members. I live in Columbus you should hear the stuff about the OSU football players when they lose. Just the way it is, and it’s not going to get better with all the legalized sports betting.
Jasper Johnson is not making "millions" of dollars. Good grief.
