I sure hope so. But if not, will other schools have the courage to do something about it?Originally posted by NavyKat:

Posted the same in another thread, surely this moves the needle for the sports news media in the direction of calling for NCAA action in the UNC case.Originally posted by CUT-NETS:
Im going to say the same thing here in regard to Cuse and UNC as I posted over on HOB.
NCAA acted very swiftly on Cuse in my opinion and the penalty is fairly significant. Has to make you wonder about UNC and what will happen there. Wouldn't Cuse be the first school to line up screaming for justice to be served in regard to UNC? Better yet, shouldn't they?
Is this supposed to be some kind of joke???? The NCAA has been investigating this FOR 10 YEARS!!!!Originally posted by CUT-NETS:

If that is acting "swiftly", look for UNC announcement to come down in 2068...
Think that'll mean they have to take down their Helm's banners??? If that happens, they will not have the 164 National Championships they claim.Originally posted by NavyKat:

But according to the letter that Syracuse just released about the NCAA's decision, they said that it's been under review for 8 years now.Originally posted by KMKAT:
A couple of notes I saw from the Syracuse review:
- the investigation was going on for 11 months solid recently, and the administration simply wanted to find closure to it, so they asked that this get decided sooner than later.
- Syracuse went back further with the review and determined it was best to find as much as they could on the early issues and then get that conclusion.
- The NCAA took an acceptance of the self imposed investigation/penalties and then was able to wrap all of it up into one.
If the 11 months is an indication, look for UNC to have a conclusion within the next 18 months. If Syracuse had a lot of documention to go through, how much is there to look at in Chapel Hill?

What makes you think that after so many years of nothing?Originally posted by KYCAT78:
The NCAA/is not going to do anything to UNC until the NCAAT is over. I expect the hammer to come down in the period that players are eligible to declare for the draft.

College Gameday is at North Carolina this Saturday.....the hypocrisy of watching them discuss the Syracuse situation this weekend while compleltely not talking about what North Carolina has done will be too much for me to handle. My guess is there won't be one....single....word....said while they sit on the floor of the Dean Dome
Heck, not sure they will even make much noise about Syracuse, now that they are an ACC team. We shall see.Originally posted by CUT-NETS:

Wow, that will be awkward
That's an excellent guess for obvious reasons though I've always thought more like mid-summer. At the least recruit commit's should be released. I don't recall seeing that mentioned in the Syracuse sanctions though they do have the 10 limit to deal with now.Originally posted by KYCAT78:

Some funny stuff over on the Heel board:
From Mikeirbyusa: Why? They had a ATHLETIC SCANDAL pure and simple, we have an academic scandal.
Strumminggram: I don't think this guarantees anything about UNC, either. The NCAA is actually complicit in the AFAM situation. I don't see anything coming from that. The more time goes by with no outcome, the better.
Gary-7: There was no effort within the UNC basketball program to cut corners, nor to "steer" players. Only the football program committed actual NCAA infractions. The only remote taint with basketball was during Doherty's tenure of not acting on some red flags about too many players gravitating to AFAM courses and majors. That is far from a culpable offense. Not that the NCAA is above inventing things from time to time, but that would be a hugely unwarranted stretch.

This will be the best Gameday ever! Watching them dance around the 800lb gorilla will be great. Not to mention all the UK talk that will be prominent the entire broadcast. Will not miss.Originally posted by Untouchables22:

I always felt that the NCAA overstepped their bounds on the Penn State situation. What happened there is a horrendous tragedy, we all agree on that. But to me that was a legal matter, the NCAA jumped the gun and treated it as if it was a situation of cheating and forced them to vacate all these wins because of how they handled an employee who was a child predator. And in wake of the recent news of the lawsuit with the NCAA being settled with the NCAA allowing Paterno's wins to get reinstated PSU ultimately did receive some vindication from that standpoint. Just an ugly, ugly horrible situation though with what that assistant did all those years.Originally posted by hotelblue:
i've tried thinking about this every which way. about jurisdiction and all that. the sad reality is the cheating was so calculated and longstanding that it's almost a priceless crime. you give the NCAA a chance to get money and they swoop right in. what jurisdiction did they have in the penn state scandal? no way they make them pay millions upon millions if it was the chess team. the ncaa literally was soo not ready for this that they didn't, and still don't know what to do. every stall tactic has been used. the reason we act like this is unprecedented cheating is simply because it is. it's basically been a publically owned story going on 4 years. since academic integrity isn't a punishable crime, they don't have a pricetag. yet hard evidence remains with numerous eye witness accounts, transcripts, and an athletic department already on double secret probabtion basically self reporting two decades of cheating with no penalties. THE single most daming thing as far as the NCAA is concerned is that this scandal isn't sports related, it's sports driven. that's why people are looking to the NCAA.
the irony is that even if the NCAA sent 2000 woodward and bernstein's down there, would they even penalize them still? they have to make money. to us it looks like they don't want to hurt the unc brand. and the best irony is by doing nothing over time, it will turn out to have been the worst investment. said it a million times, they should have slapped their own butts and cleaned house and taken two years off. the'd already be building back up to the tournament fresh off of probation, with fresh blue skies ahead. not so much.
