Not plausible. Cal’s buyout is still way too expensive, and Jay Wright wouldn’t come here anyways.Fire Cal and hire Jay Wright
Stevens is running the entire Celtics organization. That’s a better gig than any coaching job. I doubt he’ll ever coach again.Brad Stevens available?
Not sure about that any more. Tough job for many to handle and a fanbase that wants at title every year. Too much pressure for some.I disagree. If UK calls, any current or former coach would listen!
Folks would hammer him too when he loses to teams he shouldn't. Or has an 8-10 L season. No coach is exempt from the critical wrath of BBN.![]()
Jay Wright does not need Kentucky. He is making plenty of money and has won titles at Villanova and may win more. There no reason for him to come to Lexington unless he has family or likes horses.I disagree. If UK calls, any current or former coach would listen!
Sarcastic. People on this board have been calling to fire Cal and hire Jay Wright. Villanova was blown out today by Baylor. Every coach has upside and downside. Not plausible. Cal’s buyout is still way too expensive, and Jay Wright wouldn’t come here anyways.
I disagree. If UK calls, any current or former coach would listen!
He’s also rejected lucrative NBA offers.Jay Wright rejected us in 2007. He now has two titles. I doubt he wants to put up with the insane expectations of UK fans when he’s built his own program.
He’s also turned down lucrative NBA offers.
He’s a Villanova lifer. Doesn’t want to be anywhere else. If he ever does leave, it’ll likely be to the NBA, not another college job.
Cal has no buy out. He’s appointed with a lifetime job. If you make a change he’s just moving offices. Not plausible. Cal’s buyout is still way too expensive, and Jay Wright wouldn’t come here anyways.
This isn’t accurate…no one expects a title every year, we do expect to be relative and compete against the big boys. We aren’t relative and we aren’t one of the big boys anymore. Not sure about that any more. Tough job for many to handle and a fanbase that wants at title every year. Too much pressure for some.
Just about anyone could do better than the current version of Cal......think Pitino if you want to restore our program to the glory days,Nah, I’d rather have Penny. He too coo fo’ schoo.
Sure, he does. In fact, I believe it’s currently sitting at $54 million …which is way way more than for any other coach ever. We call it a “lifetime” contract because the terms are so outrageously onerous that it’s realistically not financially possible to fire him. But technically we still could if we’re willing to cut him a $54 million check.Cal has no buy out. He’s appointed with a lifetime job. If you make a change he’s just moving offices.
LOLJust about anyone could do better than the current version of Cal......think Pitino if you want to restore our program to the glory days,
hmmmm.... of course they would take the call, out of respect. But Sutton, RP and BCG...were not 1st choice of UK or fans.I disagree. If UK calls, any current or former coach would listen!
And a better chance of playing a zone than CalHire Santa Claus, he has a better shot at coming than Wright.
And I disagree with you, the pressure of NON-titles has not affected Cal. (could be effected)Not sure about that any more. Tough job for many to handle and a fanbase that wants at title every year. Too much pressure for some.
What's his last five years compared to Tubby? If we successfully run a HOF coach off with a 77 percent winning percentage over 13 years, do we expect other top coaches to want to come here and deal with a hyper bipolar fanbase OR will we have to hire and up and comer and hope?
Like that will be relevant to the National conversation. Run off Cal and there’s going to be a price to pay. What's his last five years compared to Tubby?
Up and comer seems like the only realistic option. Doesn’t mean that couldn’t lead to an excellent outcome but that gets harder to predict who that got coach will be in five to ten years. If we successfully run a HOF coach off with a 77 percent winning percentage over 13 years, do we expect other top coaches to want to come here and deal with a hyper bipolar fanbase OR will we have to hire and up and comer and hope?
I think people understand that going 9-16 and missing the tournament is the type of season that will get a coach's seat warm at almost any school and will definitely result in a hot seat at Kentucky where a coach is paid $10,000,000.00 per season. If we successfully run a HOF coach off with a 77 percent winning percentage over 13 years, do we expect other top coaches to want to come here and deal with a hyper bipolar fanbase OR will we have to hire and up and comer and hope?
Oats and Messelman, especially Oates, have proven they can both coach and recruit. Give one of them the keys to the car, if they'll come, and we should be fine.Oats then musselman need to be the first two calls. Wright has nothing left to prove and would basically be cal part deux.
Yeah, I recall that was in 07 that we briefly pursued him ..but he had no interest. We ended up hiring Gillispie after Donovan and Wright both rejected us. Boy, talk about a mark down…Jay Wright wasn't interested one time before, doubt if he would be now anyway.
