That Benet game really came back to bite JC. Had they won, they would have the 1 seed in the North and basically the bye to the semis. Now they more than likely have MCC and Naz back-to-back. And whoever comes out of that group will face Tinley Park, Glenbard South, or St. Laurence in the semifinals. And Lincoln-Way West gets to coast through the south bracket.

I know, you have to beat the best anyway, but beating Benet sure would have limited the games against the top 5A teams to semifinals and finals. Especially with our injury issues, a tough first three rounds could cause problems.

Finally, do we expect to see Michael Johnson stay at fullback going forward? I realize that gets our three big play threats in the backfield, but I prefer to see our true fullback in there blocking and either K. Johnson or Davis out at a WR/TE. I will be curious to see how we line up next week.

You make a good point regarding the Benet game. With only 9 regular season games, every game is important. The way the brackets fell means that if both JC and Naz win their first two games, the rematch will probably be at Naz. Not sure how big a deal that is in HS football, but it's a small advantage for Naz. It's a bigger deal to the fans who actually would like to see the game.

From what I've heard, Laurence would be the team I'd expect to make it to the semis in the top of the 5A North draw. Some suggest they are the favorites to win 5A next year. LWW sure did get a nice draw. They fall to 5A as the largest team and get to go South. Not bad.

Not sure what the plan is going forward with M. Johnson. I noticed they brought the traditional fullback back on the last drive and had success. We shall see.

I'm not sure the "where" matters so much as the "what."

Past years show Sharp has a large play book, it's just the pages haven't turned much lately. Who remembers last year against PC, all the swing passes to start the game; who remembers the tailbacks going in motion behind the full back for the running sweeps to josh ferguson - or the fake pitch counter; or the double screen pass...

the beauty of the wing t is that you can run so many plays from it...we just need to do it.

It's curious to read some of the comments in this and other threads about a team's "cakewalk" or some such phrase to the semis or championship game, while others bemoan the fact of being put in a "tough" bracket here and there. I would not expect this from you posters up here, since we all know that the northern part of the state is the only area where good high school football is played, right? If so, then it is all good playing all good. Where then is the advantage or disadvantage.

hinter - im not sure if i call it better football; rather there are simply more better teams up north. i hope you see that as not an insult, but a fact of population.

there are good teams down south (somewhere just south of 80), but there are more in the north based solely on the fact there is larger population. it's ratio - if nothing else. I think all people want is a spreading out of teams.

all you have to do is look at the results of games played in the past to see the results - it really cannot be refuted.

Yes hinter. Clearly LWW still has to play the games and I wouldn't be shocked to see them trip up against a team like Washington, Metamora, etc. That said, 7-2 Naz looks at the bracket and just knows that there are more quality teams in their way than 7-2 LWW is facing.

And even when it gets to the state finals, clearly the winner of the south bracket has a 50/50 chance to win the game. But I don't think anyone can disagree that the path through the north is filled with more quality teams than the path through the south. As JCHILLTOPPERS said, not an insult, just a pretty obvious truth.

And if Washington or LWW or someone from the south is to win 5A this year, that is not evidence of us being wrong. Heck, SHG came through the south and won 5A the last two years.
